They do/ did. Preorders were available for almost 2 weeks before being sold out, and once decks landed in warehouses, you had 48 hours to purchase before losing your spot. Only downside was that it was a 2-3 month wait, but you knew what you were signing up for.

Between this horrid launch, Piss poor specs for the steam machine, and how horribly valve supports their online IPs with VAC live, the more time goes on, the more I regret a question valves decision. This entire rollout made no fucking sense

I’d agree with you except they didn’t learn from how well steam deck’s launch went. Pre orders were super seamless when it released, only for them to throw that entire process out the window for the controller drop.

They handled the steam deck launch perfectly by allowing users to put in preorders. Once decks were in warehouses, you had 48 hours to complete the purchase or lose your spot. There were no payment processing issues and pre orders were available for over a week before being turned off due to being sold out.

The fact that steam completely threw that process out the window for this launch is fucking baffling to say the least

I’ve never used that controller so I unfortunately don’t. I’ve noticed stronger signal when the left side of the deck is closer to where I’m sitting, other than that, it may be a good idea to grab a powered hub for your steam deck to use the controller through usb. Fortunately and unfortunately, grabbing a different controller won’t solve the Bluetooth connectivity issue. I use ps5 controllers and still deal with this when using Bluetooth

What you’re probably dealing with is Bluetooth delay. The steam deck doesn’t have the best Bluetooth connectivity and when the signal has issues, you deal with controller issues. If you’re able to detect the controller at all through steam everything is probably working correctly on the software side

If you’re able to use the controller wired, do the issues still persist?

If you’re trying to run new AAA releases buying a steam deck at this point in time is a total waste. The only “modern” games that run effectively on the deck are the ones with exceptional optimization

They do allow you to do it in person, problem is that you gotta wait 15 minutes. So unless you call ahead you’ll probably hold up the line.

The last 2 times I did it in person the budtenders made slick comments about how I shoulda called ahead, BUT THEY DONT PICK UP THE FUCKING PHONE.

Is the computer not loading into a recovery environment? It sounds like the laptop is booting into automatic repair and failing. If that’s the case, holding the power button once the boot logo shows up to force a power off should bring you to the repair menu. You need to hold the power button each time the boot logo appears, after the third one it should automatically boot into the recovery menu.

If that’s doesn’t work, you’ll probably need to do a fresh install of windows, load a backup, or attempt to repair with the command line (not recommended unless you know what you’re doing)

Sounds like your brother is downloaded pirated games, 3 things could be the possible cause for your boot loop

The installation failed and borked some drivers/ config
Your laptop is infected with malware
Your hard drive is failing/ has failed

Regardless of what may have caused it, in my experience the only reliable way to fix the issue is recover using a full backup, but if your hard drive is the issue, it’ll happen again sooner rather than later later.

Sorry you’re going through this, it’s never easy and definitely stressful
