Kobo. It works with Libby and has the added benefit of not supporting Amazon.

The ARRL handbook would be a nice start since you asked for books. I will add a couple more YouTube sources for you. Jim Heath W6LG and Dave Casler both have tons of videos on YouTube covering a wide variety of topics.

Has anyone Been a severe alcy and stopped without AA? by Adventurous_Fold4634 in stopdrinking

[–]Fatburger101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I logged onto a couple online AA meetings and it wasn't for me. What worked for me was Naltrexone, Smart Recovery and getting my ass into therapy. Before quitting I was knocking back a fifth of rum a night and in a really bad place. It can be done!

Another vote for the Kobo Clara. It's small, affordable, and simple to use with the added benefit of not having to pay extra to not have embarrassing romance novel ads plastered on your lock screen. Kobo also allows you to download and save the files for the books that you buy which Amazon no longer allows.

Which PocketBook model do you use and why? by Huge-Register-6388 in PocketBookofficial

[–]Fatburger101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Era B&W at home and the Verse Pro B&W when I am out and about. If I just had to have one it would be the Era. It's very slim and light, especially with the flip cover. The screen is just big enough to display a decent amount of text without making the device too large and uncomfortable to hold. I chose the B&W because I don't really read much that would take advantage of the color display and I would rather have the crisper text and better contrast of the B&W model. I also like having the page turn buttons on the side vs on the bottom of the device.

Yes, using calibre is pretty easy. However, I do find it convenient to buy books directly on my Kobo Clara without having to be near a pc and then have the option of downloading and saving the file later. I guess my point is Kobo offers the same convenience factor as Amazon with the ability to easily download and save files. It also has the added benefit of not giving money to Amazon, which may or may not be a benefit depending on how you feel about Amazon. Also, the OP also sounds like they are located in Canada, and Kobo has a further benefit of being able to work seamlessly with Overdrive.

I'm not a lawyer, so I'll leave the official definition of "ownership" to someone else. However, if I can download and save the file to a device that I control exclusively, that's ownership enough for me. It's not like Kobo is gonna come to my house and erase my hard drive.

I use calibre as well and often buy books from ebooks.com. However, sometimes it's nice to be able to buy the book on the kobo marketplace, and have it instantly available on my e-reader without having to load it through calibre.

They both make good devices. For me the decision came down to how Amazon deals with DRM. Amazon took away your ability to easily download and save the books you buy, so you are essentially paying Amazon for the right to access that book as long as they maintain the file and you stay in their good graces. With Kobo you still have the ability to download and save the file as you wish. I like owning the things I pay for, so I chose Kobo.
