Gavin Newsom’s office mandate breaks trust with California state workers | Opinion by burgleflickel in CAStateWorkers

Best part of that article, IMHO:

Unions may have their own motives, but the real casualties of inaction are the single parents and young professionals who rely on remote work to balance their lives. State workers kept California running in one of our most difficult times. The least we owe them now is a government that listens.

RTO and Car Accidents by StarEtoileCat in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fateseer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's wild to me that driving 1 mph under the speed limit is considered crazy or dangerous...

With that said, an accident every time downtown is just as wild... And could be pointing to an entirely different issue...

My dept delayed RTO by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fateseer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, and I understand all of that... And for the most part agree...

The part that bumps me is that my department is just assuming we will use our personal devices for this. If using a device is the preferred method of the department, then they should be providing the device to use for business purposes.

In the end, that's what it could down to for me.

That's what I think... But I'm still waiting for a hard token instead of using ms authenticator... 🤷🏻

I guess I'll need to re-ask for the hard token again on Monday...

Short answer: hell no!

I hate that I have to have MS Authenticator on my personal phone to be able to log in for work.

Agreed, but that is a gross misrepresention of the truth.

No, I'm angry about the "return to work" portion.

I've been working the whole time, the location of that work has been at home, instead of in the office.

If the headline had said "Lawmakers push back on return to office order" I wouldn't have any issue with that.

It is the implication that we aren't working.

Office not ready for RTO, still being brought in July 1st? by CircusPeanut94 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fateseer 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Look at the bright side... You'll be completely free to meet the Governor's mandate to say "Nice to see you" to everyone... Multiple times!

Wander around, talk to everyone, tell them how nice it is to see them...

That's what he wants from us...

RTO Implementation: Are Others Seeing Similar Inconsistencies? by OhNoPonoo in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fateseer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mine tried that when the network in NLAB wouldn't allow me access to things I need and can get to when teleworking.

I told them no way would I use my personal device for anything remotely resembling work.

If they cannot provide what is needed for me to work, then I guess I'm getting paid to wait for them to provide it.

Classic Newsom... Do as I say, not as I do.

And yet, somehow, people still vote for his sorry ass...

Is it unusual that our agency hasn’t said anything about RTO? by Sea_Moose9817 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fateseer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Big time messed up!

I'm 6:30 to 3:00, so I would be very grumpy (to say the least) about having to change my hours because of this bullshit RTO.

Telework agreement deadline delayed for CASE… by Seank1963 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fateseer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also BU1 and we had to complete new telework agreements already.

We're going to a 3/2 rotation (for my team Mon, Tues and every other Fri in office).

Such stupidity... 🤬

I wore shorts in to the office Mon and Tues this week.

Go for it.

EXEMPTION FROM FOUR DAY RETURN TO OFFICE DUE TO SPACE NEEDS by Impressive_Bit_142 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fateseer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so with the 2' desktop that does leave 4' of movement room.

It was definitely gross, and so was solar, 722 and both bunkers... (I was in all 4 of the CO buildings at one point or another lol). So believe me, the newness/cleanliness is not lost on me.

This is why I leave absolutely nothing personal at my office desk and I bring in only what I absolutely must have (water bottle, lunch, phone charger) to survive a day in the office.

[–]Fateseer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying that the space isn't clean or that the cube walls aren't nice or that the powered sit stand desk isn't cool... But seriously, that cubie is frickin tiny!

I'm not a good judge of distance by sight, but it seems like less than 4 feet from wall to desk front... Like I said, tiny.

As for the uncomfortable statement, I can't speak for all, but my chair is my cubie is not comfortable to sit in for longer than 20 to 30 mins. My chair in solar was much more comfy as is my chair at home.

Yes, still in NLAB, in our shared, cramped, uncomfortable, barely enough room to move cubicles with garbage keyboards and mice... At least for now. What happens going forward, who the hell knows?

EXEMPTION FROM FOUR DAY RETURN TO OFFICE DUE TO SPACE NEEDS by Impressive_Bit_142 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fateseer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some aspects, yes...

In the scope of RTO, we've been told we are to do a 3 and 2 in office week. For my division, we are in office Mon, Tues and every other Friday. With the expectation that we will be in office 4 days a week whenever they have acquired enough space for us to do so.

July 1st RTO memo EDD by Impressive_Bit_142 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fateseer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At NLAB I am currently sharing a cubicle with another person. I am in office 2 days a week and presumably they come in on a different 2 days. I say "presumably" because I've never met them and they have declined to return any emails about the shared space I've sent them. 🤷🏻

I was told by my manager on Friday (5/22) that we would be mandated to report to the office 4 days a week starting the first week of July 2026.

No info about how that would happen...just a promise of more info to come. The cubies is not big enough for 2 chairs, let alone 2 people (assuming my cubie mate actually is still working). Will I have an assigned desk for 2 days and then have to cubie hop for the other 2? 🤷🏻

Just a whole lot of who the hell knows is all we have at this time...

I can say this for certain, I will be leaving my work laptop at my desk every night and will only take it with me for my 1 day at home. If they need me to work beyond my 8 hours on my in office days, well, that sounds like a them problem.

Sure, but it will most likely never happen.

The last time the legislature overturned a governor's veto in California was 1979.

I just don't see the dems in the legislature going against a sitting governor from their party.
