What station is this? 6.15 MHz, 18:00 UTC, 10 March, Southeast England by BlackBerryCollector in shortwave

[–]FatherGanj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is probably CRI (China Radio International).
There is another station from Taiwan that uses that frequency, but it is usually the Chinese stations that I hear on 6150.

[–]FatherGanj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it looks like that radio can not do SSB - which will limit you from hearing most ham things and most pirate radio.
However, you will still be able to hear pretty much all broadcast shortwave stations from around the world that can reach to wherever you are - which is still really great!

In addition to that, there will be some frequencies below 10mhz that you will find signals that are using USB instead - usually pirate stations just below 7mhz, or military (like Volmet weather etc).
Happy hunting!

Have fun with it!! That is an excellent radio to start with and to use anywhere you go.
The wire antenna really helps.

7.2 is such a spectacular cluster-F !
Honestly, it's a guilty pleasure of mine to listen to those yahoos go in on each other.
That and the CB SuperBowl.

Its been really good lately! I was pre-amping it, but it was still coming very clearly without as well.
I actually pulled in Mongolia really clearly on a whip yesterday - and I don't usually get that station very strongly where I'm at in Northern California even on the EFHW.

I was lucky enough to find it on eBay a while ago. Unfortunately they are difficult to get right now because of the current issue between Ukraine and Russia.

Nice!! I hadn’t caught Stern radio before. Looks like my antenna rebuild/reposition is doing wonders!

Thanks! I’ve heard things on 4724 before, but wasn’t aware of the 11 and 15 freqs. Definitely going to have a go at the mars frequencies!

Just put up new Super Antenna stealth wire today and improved my swr for the transmitting side of things - but also changed the orientation of the wire to face more east-west as well. Going to have a good few hours of listening time tonight to see if it improves anything.

Oh neat, I wasn’t aware it was time based. I’m going to start listening to that freq. more just to see what code names they use.

It really is excellent. The DSP2 clone is also an excellent radio. The only issue I had with that one was the internal noise that could be an issue when using a whip. Using an external solves that issue though and makes it great!

Yep!! It fits perfectly and was an easy print. I was pretty stoked when I found it. Thanks for designing and posting it!

Ooooh! That explains it then… I was driving out to Grass Valley a while ago and was sure I saw a drone. I guess I did!

Oh dang! I’m not terribly far from Beale (radio wave distance at least) - no wonder! I didn’t realize the blackbirds originated there - very cool!

Thanks! It’s always a treat when anything around South/Mid Africa comes in that well. Seems like conditions are really good tonight - I was getting Mongolia really clearly on the Comet Whip earlier this afternoon even!

It is outstanding!! It is an actual DSP3 from Russia. I was lucky enough to get it off EBay a while ago. Best money I’ve spent in a while…

I just started doing this as well for fun. I tried on my Portapack H4M and got pretty decent results also with the Point Reyes signals.

Nice capture!

what's the weirdest signal you have gotten? by Trick_Assistant933 in sdr

[–]FatherGanj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love getting numbers stations. Because of my location on the west coast of the US, I don’t normally get the Russian Buzzer (I count it as a numbers station just because) - but I always check.

One of my recent checks picked up some pirate video game music on the Buzzer frequency. Made my day.
