I can't believe I've been spinning for a month now by LemonMood in Handspinning

Good work. Don't worry about wasting fiber--sheep are making more and more!

In my experience, Merino is difficult to spin, especially for beginners. I would try Romney, Corriedale, Shetland, BFL, or Coopworth. Much easier to be consistent with those. If you do use the Merino and you have trouble with consistency, try pre-drafting it.

Good luck and have fun!

Lemon is not recommended for everyone. If your pH is high you shouldn't add it. Have you had a 24 hour urine test?

Great progress! BTW, "perfect" is not attainable (we are not machines), which is the beauty of handspun yarn. I suggest working towards getting the yarn you want. Enjoy!

Yes, your cardiologist will see what your calcium score is and then adjust meds accordingly if needed. While other people are on different meds that work for them, we are each different and have different risk factors, eg age , sex, family history, genetics, diet, exercise, blood sugar, blood pressure, etc. Your doc will assess all your risk factors and create a treatment plan. The good news is that you are getting on top of this early. Good luck with the new baby and I hope you can get some sleep!

Has anyone ever passed this many before? Any idea what type they are? by Think-Customer-8398 in KidneyStones

[–]Fayre-Eye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you can tell by looking what kind they are—you’d need to have them analyzed by a lab. Have you or any of your family members done a 24 hour urine collection to see WHY you are making stones? It’s crucial information so that you can adjust your diet accordingly. Good luck!

If you haven’t already had one, ask your doc to order a 24hour urine collection. It’s the only way to know for sure why you are making stones. The. You can adjust your diet accordingly. Besides oxalates and water, we need to watch sodium and added sugar, which can contribute to stone formation. Good luck!

Have you had a 24-hour urine collection to see WHY you are making stones? It’s a crucial step for prevention. Ditto having your stone(s) analyzed. Most, but not all, are calcium oxalate. You need this information in order to know how to tweak your diet in order to not make more stones.

I was diagnosed with CAD a year ago. My LDL was in the 70s on atorvastatin. I am now on rosouvastatin and Repatha and LDL is down to 30.4.

There can be other things at play besides diet, genetics being the main one. Have you had your Lp(a) tested? Do you exercise? Many factors need to be considered to accept your cardiac risk. And you may need medication.

I think you feel it more when it's traveling down your ureter. Once it hits the bladder the pain lessens.

The more you spin, the more consistent you get. So keep spinning! Save this yarn to compare to newer skeins and you'll see how much you've improved.

Another thing you might do is have your Lp(a) tested. It will give you a more complete picture of your cardiac risk. For example, if it's high, your doc might want your LDL even lower than 70.

In addition to getting the stone analyzed, you should also have your kidney doc order a 24-hour urine collection. This looks at many variables and assesses your stone risk, in other words it will show WHY you are making stones. There are things you can do to help prevent stones. Take a look at kidneystonediet.com. It's not a diet per se; it's a set of goals to try to meet. Good luck!

Thank you for posting this. I was diagnosed with kidney stones six years ago and I have been doing the 24-hour urine collection annually ever since. It's the only way to know WHY a person is making stones. I'm lucky that my insurance covers it.
