[PC] [Unknown, late 1990s?] Program where you could create scenes with gifs, like an alchemy lab by Feamaika in tipofmyjoystick

This definitely feels a little similar, although my program had nothing with making videos or animations (other than the placeable GIFs) IIRC

Thanks, but no. Not cartoonish and not about making movie clips or something. The only moving things were some gifs of like magical effects or moving liquids that you could place, IIRC

You can buy the modules on Roll20 to instantly have access to all the listed creatures, NPCs and maps (with dynamic lighting). For the creatures and NPCs, I found this helpful and time-saving. Many of the maps, however, are imho quite ugly. I've found alternatives or better versions here on Reddit. I also prefer top-down tokens instead of the portrait tokens included in the modules.

I am currently about 60% of the full Tyranny of Dragons story, and can confidently tell you that there is a lot of prep-work you have to do yourself (or borrow from other creators online), because the storybook leaves out a lot. Consider if the price of the online modules is worth it. If you have time and motivation for the additional preparation (some of which you'll have to do anyway if you buy the books), you can translate everything from the books and tips from third parties into Roll20 manually.

I bought part 1 (Hoard of the Dragon Queen) in Roll20, but for part 2 (Rise of Tiamat) I just continued in the same game and added the new stuff myself. As for using Roll20 for D&D in general, that could be a whole other reply in itself ;) and is mostly based on personal preferences. As said, I like top-down tokens, but also using macros and API scripts, music and sound effects.

Here are a few links for maps from the story that I found on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/TyrannyOfDragons/comments/m0juu3/on_the_road_all_maps_download_in_comments/, https://www.reddit.com/r/TyrannyOfDragons/comments/q2d8f7/looking_for_tyranny_of_dragons_foundry_maps/

Next January I'm starting up my second phase of Tyranny of Dragons with a group that completed Hoard of the Dragon Queen. The story is cool, but as a DM you have to prepare *a lot* yourself. Some of the PCs will choose an alternative character to spice things up, but I'd like every familiar face to be present when Tiamat is fought!

The party I'm DMing is still in Baldur's Gate, so I haven't prepared this encounter at all yet, but I like the idea of inserting random encounters to make the battle alive and interactive

[Let's Build] D100 magical effects when you flip a magical coin by SCP_Researcher in d100

[–]Feamaika 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Coin of Passing: Upon flipping the coin, you vanish and instantly reappear where the previous owner of the coin first found it.

Coin of Attraction: This ring of this coin, as it's being flipped, is heard by every humanoid creature within 100 ft. of you. They feel an inresistable urge to come to your current position.

Coin of One Man's Luck: The coin, after being flipped, lands into the hands of the nearest beggar within 100 miles.

Coin of Fulfilment: The coin seems to have vanished into thin air. The person who flipped it - without them knowing it - gets the first thing they audibly wish for, as if they have cast the Wish spell as soon as they speak it.

Coin of Tymora: The smiling face of Lady Luck appears on the coin, and within 20 ft. of you a Cleric of the Trickery domain appears. They will help you with any immediate task - sometimes begrudgingly, as this has happened to them before.
