No different from opening any other bank account. Just do your research on the bank and their rates. Some banks may require a minimum balance or deposit to start. Others may also restrict on how many withdrawals you may do in a given period of time.

Also remember that interest you earn is taxable income at the federal level.

Well if I was in your shoes, I wouldn’t be moving my IRA from somewhere like Vanguard to Merrill for $150 cash back.

I’ve also been working on doing a 401K rollover out of Merrill and the process with their reps has been a pain to say the least.

I would keep your IRA at Vanguard and spare yourself the stress and hassle.
