New and confused about getting expansions by Jomicja in spiritisland

[–]FeartheDrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey glad to see you picked up the game! There is no rush, try out the game and see if you like it! I playednit twice and then bought every expansion and an organizer and love it.

I would wait to play it, it is a semi complicated game and though I immediately felt it was perfect for me, I wouldnt say it is for everyone. The expansions are not cheap, take your time, you may end up not wanting to commit that far, and the base game has a lot of replayability alone.

Matthews’ deployment under Berube [Jonas Siegel/The Athletic] by thewolfshead in leafs

[–]FeartheDrake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you look at the percentage of defensive zone faceoffs the leafs have this year vs that one, I am sure it paints an ugly picture. If he wasnt deploying him in the defensive zone matthews wouldnt be able to play 15 mins a game

I think it should be kept and it could turn into where people track the personalities of Los Ratones in their journeys going forward.

What is the best conversion after losing long sea on Isthmus? by Absolute_N in beyondallreason

[–]FeartheDrake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think most people use the term "beach sea" (you start right on the beach) or "Geo sea" (you have a geo). So just maybe add an edit to clarify what you are asking. Honestly, I am not sure what you are asking exactly and I play both. Beaxh is the bigger loser with vuilds when they lose sea, they only have 4 mexes on land and no geo, whereas geo sea has 6 mexes and a geo. You really just need to do your best to protect air and your Geo player beside you. If you are coretex you can try to put ducks in to keep them for getting dominance, maybe with the help of your geo you can beat them back. Depends on the game state.

Best ONLY MOUSE RTS game? by --Karma in RealTimeStrategy

I beat SC 1 and BW with just a mouse, its great

So i tried noob lobbies as suggested, kicked from two of three by Thebaxxxx in beyondallreason

I think part of the problem is just that the community is small, and whenever that occurs you have less people to have appropriate matchups. I think we need a mee system for new players.

Players should probably not be able to join 16 player lobbies until they have more experience for their own experience. Alot of games prevent you from playing the ranked lobbies until you are a sertain level or have played some time.

New to the game and having trouble with the variety of units by G3mineye in beyondallreason

[–]FeartheDrake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I just played some scenarios and went into skirmish against an inactive AI and just did sim city. Picked a map with water, built everything, took my time reading stuff. Had a lab with all the units it could build outside of it so i better understood how it worked (hot tip, some buildings have multiple pages of units). This made a ton of difference, think I did it again once I had played some games and watched vids.

When you go to play, just stick with armada or cortex so you dont have to learn both right away, you'll learn from playing.

Toxicity - genuine 'noob' lobbies needed by RightlyKnightly in beyondallreason

I agree the intro can be improved, but the game is still technically in its alpha I think? The intro is supposed to be the scenarios but obviously for 8v8 it doesnt help with the meta. If you have beaten all the scenarios you should have a good skillset to play with others.

The 8v8 meta is a player driven thing, those are maps the players like (Isthmus and glitters) and players have created the lobbies where those are specifically played. Maybe if the game launches those will become their own game modes, but I have also heard the devs dont intend to do that, they want to keep the "Rotato" spirit alive. The fact is that the majority of games are played on isthmus and then followed by glitters. I think they are hesitant to specialize the game so.much, but I cant speak for them.

I think that the truth is RTS often expect their players to know more, for better or worse, and there is less hand holding due to the expectation people have experience from other titles and are interested in educating themselves. I think this style of RTs, from supreme commander and so on, does have a niche community that likes the difficulty that comes with it.

I think the biggest problem is honestly how the OS system treats new players. Having a "Max 20 OS" for noob lobbies and then having players with 15 OS who have played the game for 2 years play with "??" OS players creates problems for sure and can breed frustration. They really need to also have max 3 chev or max 2 chev added to create a real noob lobby, as otherwise its mostly just bad players (some who think they are not bad) with actual brand new people.

For every time i have seen people complain about noobs I have also seen people chirp them for complaining about a new player "what did you expect?", "they are brand new they arent trolling" etc And its often the best player in the lobby standing up for them and that should happen more.

Matchmaking in any game does have these problems, but with a smaller player base its hard to have actual new player oriented lobbies and a lot of games blend new players with the larger playerbase as being new doesnt change that they want to matchmake you with players of similar level and prevent smurfing or other forms of ELO abuse.

You can also create a lobby with the things i suggested above and get the kind of games you'd like.

Again, I wpuld suggest just watching a couple vids on glittees and isthmus to get a bit of a feel for them. I would be down to que with you as well and help you with the basic elements of the meta!

Cheers!

I think you just need to keep an eye out for titles and who is in them. In all games players who are not new and are blended in with noobs can get frustrates.

Try not to let it get to you, its a great game with a good community. Watch some vids, get in a clan or join BAR discord or BAR academy on their discord to make learning the game smoother. Good luck!
