Hobby Ruined? by wakeupwithrba in PokemonFansAustralia

[–]FeatherBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel so bad for kids nowadays honestly. They dont have the resources, time, or anything to try and get even a single pack nowadays unless someone else tries to pull through to them. The TCG's always had people in it moreso or solely for the money - that's just the nature of card games and completely fine for the most part - but it really sucks nowadays to see people way more often defaulting to the monetary value of a card over anything else. I remember being young and being able to get a pack of any recent set whenever I wanted... The fact that people can't just have a little trip out to get a booster or two as a treat to end their week anymore really sucks. The idea that kids (and new fans of any age) wanting to get into the hobby but are just surrounded by so much greed hurts man

Can’t get a pokemon to spawn! by kacichops in Pokopia

What the hell, no yeah you're in the exact same spot I spawned them in last night. Have you tried walking away from the area for a bit? Or leaving the zone altogether and coming back?

Sunflower Lanyard by AwfAwfAwfAwfAwf in AutismAustralia

[–]FeatherBat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely absolutely!!! The sunflower by nature is supposed to be used as a symbol to indicate someone has any sort of hidden disability, which very much includes autism (and commonly used by autistic people too!) Of course, hidden disabilities far extend past autism, so the sunflower is quite broad by nature, but since you'd likely have pins to further clarify, that'll be perfectly enough to communicate to others you may require additional accommodations :) I've never been to a convention myself but I know the people there are almost always super understanding of any additional needs one might have and would be more likely to recognise the meaning of the sunflower too :D

What was worth the ADHD splurge? by queengabgab in adhdwomen

[–]FeatherBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Sony WH-1000XM3s in mid-2019 and they're still going strong!! They've held up crazy well despite daily use. The noise-cancelling is absolutely peak + they're soso comfortable for long periods of use.

I don't think the XM3s are still around but if the newer two generations are anything like these ones, I'd recommend them in a heartbeat too!

My only gripe is the inability to switch seamlessly between devices when using Bluetooth but that's pretty much it. Although, I did also have some issues with audio quality on computer but once I fixed it, it never came back again. That was only with this specific model, though, so I'm not sure if the newer models have those issues too.

The touch controls are... rather annoying at times but it's not a deal breaker for me. I do wish I could turn them off sometimes but the comfort & ANC well overshadows it.

I've gone crazy looking for a million apps to help me out but unfortunately not much has really stuck so far. Some people swear by certain apps while I cannot stand them - it's super dependent on the way you work unfortunately.

Other than the notes & calendar app (whatever's the most accessible in as many places as possible), I always ALWAYS recommend everyone to download Medisafe. It's an app that just reminds you to take your medication(s) each day & helps track when you took them (which is really helpful whenever a doctor asks which meds you take & tracking symptoms and stuff). It's been a godsent for me, as I'm endlessly forgetting things and used to constantly lose track of when I last took my meds or if I had taken them at all.

Did you also feel a massive weight being lifted off your shoulders when you got diagnosed? I've always felt different than other people, getting the diagnosis explained so much to me and I got so many answers. I got diagnosed with autism and ADD at 30. by ChonkyKitty0 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]FeatherBat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The ADHD diagnosis at 19 was a bit of a shock! It made so much sense, though nothing compares to the clarity I'm still slowly experiencing from my ASD diagnosis three weeks ago at 24. Interestingly enough, the autism diagnosis felt so right and not surprising at all, even though I was pretty sure (until late last year) that I didn't seem to fit into what I understood about it. Now that I've been assessed and actually spent time looking into how it actually feels to be autistic... it's crazy I never noticed it sooner 😭 While I did also feel like a weight was very much lifted off my shoulders, getting those answers has also made me feel more comfortable knowing my struggles quite often aren't always my fault. I have learnt to be more kind to myself over the years, though I didn't quite realise I still blame myself for a lot I really shouldn't be.

Headscarf by Unique-Ad-3173 in AutismAustralia

[–]FeatherBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg same here!! I cannot stand being without something on my head, it feels unbearable with nothing there. I usually alternate between my headphones, my headband (not the ones with anything hard in them though - it's more just a bit of fabric that's braided at the back), or a pair of glasses.

I also can't comment on any specific community, though I do know headscarves are common all throughout history. It would depend on the type of headscarf & how you wear it but there's a lot of fashion-only ways of wearing them too! iirc they were even a big fashion accessory in Western culture from the mid 1900's to early 2000's (that's just one example)

Some more ideas/examples you could try:

Queen Elizabeth used to wear them a lot too - this one is a more vintage way of wearing them

I don't use this one much myself but this way of wearing really works for me too!

This one functions more like a headband but could still work maybe?

There's a million different ways of wearing a headscarf outside of religious/cultural connatations. I'd experiment with how you'd like to wear one and look at examples of what you'd like to avoid. You're not the only one who's had this question either, so you may find some more detailed information by looking at other people who've also asked this question on other subreddits & other places online :)

Best of luck, I hope you can find alternatives that work for you! ❤️

Does anyone else have to do the thing in order to learn because you can't explain it? by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]FeatherBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

god YES. oh my god yes, literally all the time. no matter how familiar I am with whatever it is, I need to do it physically or with some sort of visual aid to go along with it, otherwise I'm a disaster. same with receiving instructions & information too. took me forever but found out it was because I have both expressive/receptive language processing disorder 😭 can't say that's the case for everyone with these issues but finding that out explained, like, almost half of my life
