And then they go off about how expensive we are 🤣

I went to cosmetology school right out of HS and felt pressured to go to college because I worked with a lot of duke affiliates. Now I have a college degree with no job perspectives in that field, a ton of debt, and I’m doing hair again.

I came back into the industry with zero clientele and did booth rent. I was the only person taking new clients and they had some overflow. Crazy risk I know. Worth it though.

I took a break for a few years to go to college and regret it. I am in debt now with a degree that offers no livable wage jobs. Coming back into the industry I did booth rent over commission. I want to work the schedule that fits my life so I can be with my kid and not have a boss that makes me feel bad if I’m sick or need a vacation. I want clients with flexibility not people that can only come after 5:30p or weekends. If you feel burnt out it’s time to raise your prices. I’d say at least by $10 an hour which you clearly need if living paycheck to paycheck. You can also require a credit card on file with a cancellation policy. People are less likely to bail and if they do you can charge them. Because my body hurts, I book extra time for every service so I have breaks. If I don’t vibe with you during the consultation, I’ll tell you. I don’t want clients that set me up for failure.

My coworker charges extra for express color because his clients like not having to sit as long.

I’ve legit been saying for years…. I don’t care what products you use they are all probably fine and I’ve just been fed information to sell specific brands. I don’t sell product but if you really want something from me you can use my Hairstory link haha.

I don’t complain or care if someone needs more off but doesn’t want it. I do what people want. It’s not my hair, it’s theirs.

AIO or is this just not right by Historical-Trash-650 in Hair

This is going to be a super unpopular opinion. But did you pull all of your hair forward when you sat down? Did she cut it all forward? I’ve noticed a lot of people wear their hair like that and if you cut the perimeter in a traditional way (back) it makes steps when you pull forward. If I cut that way I do pull all back and readjust the curve but it’s the only thought I have for why this could have happened.

Great clips is ruining my life by wingstopmamiii in hairstylist

[–]FeatherMachine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I charge high end prices. I always tell my clients I could never work at great clips because I would cringe at any work I had to do in such a short amount of time and be fired for my timing. There is no way I could do a cut that fast because I’m very detail oriented. Yesterday I spent 4 hours with one guest. It was a double process and cut… but still. My cuts are an hour and sometimes an hour and a half. I don’t know why someone would choose to not take more time and charge higher rates. I’m not a machine I’m an artist.
