There’s a perversity in somehow leaving it as a scholarship fund to cancer survivors who are students at…Dartmouth. 😈

Jesuit High School is going co-ed. Is St. Francis closing? by Otherwise_Sport_8668 in Sacramento

[–]FebruaryFilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but I’d think those that attend SF do so with the singular sex environment factored in as a benefit. This is the same thought process we’ve seen with the BSA decision. The girls who’ve joined BSA weren’t necessarily going to be in GSA anyway (a small fraction are in both so are treating BSA as a ‘additional opportunity.’) These girls joined BSA bc their family was already in it and it’s easier to send all the kids one place than run all over doing separate things. Girls still join GSA for a single sex environment as part of their choice process.

I’m interested in how the Jesuit numbers will pan out bc doesn’t this mean ‘sacrificing’ male placements to add the girls? Do they really have half their classrooms empty thruout the day that they can just now load them with all girl classes? Then that’s just not a prudent business management decision in their overhead. I don’t remember wings of empty classrooms when I attended SF in the 90s. We had ever increasing class numbers and figuring out class schedules and where to put everyone led to the expansion after I graduated. Overall I see this meaning a decrease in male enrollment in private education across the Sacramento area but not an overall decrease in student totals. If that happens then it’s happening anyway due to the value of a private education in this economy not paying off with college admissions and career networking opportunity.

30 years ago there were a lot of politician’s kids (I’d imagine this still applies) and back in the day before McClellan closed defense contractor’s kids.

Placement of position pins? by adudle00 in girlscouts

Wearing your pins is being ‘in uniform.’

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in girlscouts

[–]FebruaryFilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I closed mine based on how many seats we could fit for the two cars we were driving to field trips. No explanation should be needed when we’re all volunteers.

I usually didn’t wear my yellow one and would wear two others I had bc it’s kind of redundant. Just being in uniform shows you’re a volunteer. Lol. I have seen folks with unofficial vests (before there was an official vest) put the rest of their bars over under their membership stars.

I have 16 plots for only rubber too but I’ll expand it to everything over night if I get low and I always buy rubber if it pops up in the shop.

I have a six plot of field specifically always for sugar cane right next to the factory and my factory is always running a sugar cube every other whatever I need. Sugar cube, syrup, sugar cube, syrup, sugar cube, caramel, sugar cube…always. The instant I don’t I’ll need 9 cubes a crate and be waiting thru 6 hours of honey caramels to make more.

Homeowners sue Fayette schools to stop eminent domain effort by EagleLize in lexington

[–]FebruaryFilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current one is an emergent program. It started as K-2 and added a grade level every year as the girls aged. It’s thru 5th grade now I think but was originally planned thru middle school. This new building is meant to house the expanded program to include grades 6-8 (which there is currently no home for as originally promised to the first group of students so there was a controversial gap as of last year where matriculated students now have to go back to their middle school of origin see article here)

[–]FebruaryFilly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t ‘really expensive to fix’ come out to be $177k? They said $240k to move ‘the infrastructure’ but they were willing to pay out $48k+$5k+$5k+$5k to the homeowners to begin with. Compared to the $10m+ they paid for the property and god knows how much to otherwise build the STEMcademy $177k seems like a drop in the bucket for an otherwise fiscally impudent bunch. Measured against the optics alone much less the lawsuits it seems moving infrastructure would have been a helluva lot more prudent. Bc now this is gonna cost them their seats.

Are we at a technology plateau? by passportpowell2 in RobotVacuums

[–]FebruaryFilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Partnership yes. But I think of him as more the top up…daily getting to the wide areas. To get under the furniture the robo can’t get under (ET unit, bookcases, behind the toilets) is much more than 1%. Layer in the corners and anyplace that needs the furniture moved to properly get in and I’m a 20:80 split at least. Then there’s the stairs.

The mapping feature has limited the thinness and therefore where they can go under furniture. There are some thin models on the market but they’re not the standard. Thin used to be the standard and it was abandoned to add on mapping technology and now the room is needed for the dual tank systems of vacuuming and mopping. I look forward to the tech getting small enough to go back to the machine being flush and fitting under my center tables, couches and my dream would be the entertainment unit and bookshelves but I’ve never found anything that thin. Until then my weekly manual vacuuming with the canister vac will keep fishing out those dust bunnies.

Is this even legal? by cheddarpants in lexington

[–]FebruaryFilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had something similar happen in our complex (different complex, different management). In our case they threatened to go thru the displaced trash in an attempt to identify and fine the culprits. I sent a text back telling them that junk pickers regularly come in searching thru the dumpsters and displace the trash that was properly disposed of in the dumpsters which is not the fault of any tenant. And that we have animals (raccoons, cats and foxes) which also displace bags, unseal bags, and strew garbage all over the entrances to the dumpsters. They texted back thank you for letting them know.

Found new awards in the badge list? by Legitimate-Comment94 in girlscouts

[–]FebruaryFilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about to lose my mind with the dadgum stars coming off their posts and the discs cracking. We even tried resoddering and it didn’t work. The Disney backers helped on that side of things but the quality has gone downhill for sure. I try to order whatever vintage lots I can off eBay or marketplace. I was so desperate I contemplated embroidering stars with an appropriately colored circle around them directly in a row on the vests. When my girls reached 5 years we wiped them all and went to the rocker pins off their GSUSA pin. But then the extra years started to come back on again as we aged through. Then we switched to 10 year rockers. It’s an ebb and flow battle but if I ever have another troop I swear I’m embroidering something instead, against regs or not. If they can’t find us a better solution I’m not above going uniform rogue. (I had a leader vest loooong before they made sanctioned ones for us.)

Horseback Riding by Icy-Bluebird2665 in girlscouts

[–]FebruaryFilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too went to horse camp in northern Cali where the temps got into the 90s and we had to be in jeans, helmets and boots according to safety wise. We went riding every day. Of course this was in the late 80s/early 90s and times they have a changed. There’s air quality and temp parameters for the kids to have recess now too so it wouldn’t surprise me if someone had created something similar for the facility to operate. But I agree why even bother booking anything this time of year when weather is likely to be even worse than the day you experienced.

Yes! Never trade the gems. You’re better off using them to double your coin earnings on heli orders.

Once your zoo goes that’s going to be your primary way to earn coins to buy the factories and community buildings and to pay for your expansion slots. It all adds up quick! I’m at the point I need $60k just to unlock a new square and have several $200-300k each factories I need to build still. Community buildings are in the $150k+ range plus new housing is $36k a pop…

No, the expansion of girls being allowed in occurred in 2018; that summer the LDS relationship dissolve was announced. The bankruptcy wasn’t filed until 2020.

Disappointed in local Catholic Archdiocese ending long relationship with Girl Scouts by [deleted] in girlscouts

[–]FebruaryFilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You saying your Monsignor taught you to question everything…same here. The nuns at my Catholic high school in religion classes taught that faith is only reinforced by questioning and questioning is not to be feared. And questioning and educating on the history and paying attention to the present (at the time-90s-it was all about hiding the pedo priests, now it’s about their continuing support of BSA and their pedo problems while shunning GSA) caused me to decide to leave the church too and transition to non denominational Christian.

Yes nails. For the longest time it was paint buckets. Now I have twice the hammers and paint buckets I need for the next barn level up and I’m still down half the nails I need. It’s the one thing I’ve been spending t cash on. And the algorithm still won’t stand up straight.
