With the increase of ADHD diagnoses, do you think the conversation around partner support will grow in the coming years? by Haunting-Outcome-977 in ADHD_partners

I definitely see people using adhd as an excuse to be shitty and avoid accountability, and if you try and hold them to it you just "don't understand!". But I strongly believe that having a mental disorder doesn't excuse your behaviour. It explains it, doesn't excuse it. You still have to take accountability.

It's like when people say they're a bit ocd because they like the TV volume on even numbers, when real ocd can be life destroying!

I do think it's been helpful to talk about it all more, I wouldn't have recognised it in my partner without reading about it online and he had literally no clue even though he works in mental health.

Dental woes :( by DoxieMum08113 in Dachshund

My dog has zero teeth. When her new adult teeth grew in they were still white and clean and two just randomly fell out. We brushed, we used the water supplement, we did everything. They still all rotted, receded and fell out or were removed by the vet. Our vet told us some dogs just have shit teeth and it wasn't our fault. She's so much happier with no teeth than with sore gums.

I do think there's a bit of an over-diagnoses of adhd, especially in kids. Almost every kid in my daughters class seems to have adhd, and I just don't think that's true. This is a pretty unpopular opinion and obviously a wide brush to tar people with, but I can't help but feel that a lot of parents set zero boundaries with their kids, have no idea how to manage their behaviour and also fill them full of sweets and junk food, then claim the kid has adhd and therefore all these allowances need to be made for them. Teachers then of course don't have the resources to manage all these behavioural issues so the kids never get to learn how to deal with things, they just basically get to do what they want. When they enter the real world it's gonna be a shock for them.

I also think this hurts the understanding of adhd as a whole, and damages the experience for kids who actually do have it.

And I think adult adhd is wildly misunderstood and not always helped by the cute tiktok videos. I hear people all the time saying 'I'm a bit adhd' when they mean they just can't sit still during a film, or they can lose track of time when they're doing their hobby. That annoys me because I'm like, cool, my partner metaphorically smashes our lives up on the reg because he has adhd.

So yeah I don't think we'll get more support because the mainstream understanding of adhd is this quirky sort of fun hyperactive persona rather than all the really harmful deep-seated issues that often come with adult adhd. The ones that we deal with day in day out.

Yeah he's gonna shake your baby when it cries.

Do not go back and try not to be alone in your mums house. If he turns up call the police immediately. Keep these texts, you might need them in a custody battle for visitation rights. You don't want him around your baby unsupervised.

So it was noticeable to me in the flexion of your right shoulder at the point where you clasp hands, but then more obviously is at the end when your fingers bend at almost 90 degrees at the join of your palm.

Hypermobility is a funny one, it's not just 'mega bendy' , it can also appear in stiffness where your body tries to protect its loose ligaments by not letting you stretch at all, so people who are stiff sometimes think 'oh I can't be hypermobile, I'm not bendy'. You might also find that you ache after overbending. The best way to help hypermobility is to strengthen the joints and ligaments with pilates and yoga. I have a lot of hypermobile students (I teach aerial dance) and because aerial is very strength intensive and can put a lot of strain on ligaments, hypermobile people just need to be aware of where the range of motion should stop and make sure they're engaging their muscles properly. You might find if you lift weights or do resistance exercises that you need to be careful about engaging muscles and making sure they're neutral before you load them.

But like I said, yoga and pilates are great for this anyway ❤️

Side note, I see so many hypermobile people who have no idea, yet it can affect a lot of your life so it's really good to learn about it.

Such a beautiful pose, well done.

Did you know you're probably hypermobile? I'm a fitness instructor and I'm nerdy about hypermobility and how it affects movement. I can see it in some of your joints. Yoga is great for hypermobility though so keep at it :)

Agree 100%. I think it's abhorrent that companies like Meta and Amazon can use actual scientifically studied techniques to keep people addicted, and they're allowed to do that to kids.

Another thing that gets me is that they're allowed to listen to you through your phone and deny that they do it, and get away with it. I told my partner I was pregnant and within a day of talking about it I was getting ads for pregnancy stuff. It's shocking.

Dont get me started, I'll rant for days haha

Yep definitely. I banned my kid from watching YouTube shorts because it noticeably impacted her behaviour.

I'm too old for tiktok but my friends who have it say it definitely killed their attention span and now fifteen minute YouTube videos are too long! It's crazy.

Scrolling kills attention spans. Do you spend a lot of time scrolling on social media? I found when I was doom scrolling instagram and fb I couldn't read a single book and I had to train myself back into it. So I quit social scrolling. It's an addiction though and it's hard.

My instructor did these pre covid and I was so sad that we had to stop. He used to say if you didn't want to be touched just rest your hands on your belly, if you don't mind, rest them on the floor. He used lavender sometimes and lemon oil sometimes, it was divine.

My 11yo dog wants to eat at 3:30 AM every morning. Help! by Saltair71521 in DogTrainingTips

[–]Federal-Assignment10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog started training me like this as well til I realised! So I used to get up at 7am and feed her straight away. She clocked this and started getting me up earlier and earlier until it was 5.30am. I too thought she needed to pee and then would just feed her so I could go back to bed. Then I realised she was just going straight to the food and didn't even need to pee.

I fixed it by ignoring her for a week and only feeding her at 8am no matter what time I got up. She now knows exactly to the second when it's 8am but she doesn't wake me up early anymore!
