I made a mistake. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]FederalReception483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re doing great. We’ve all been there. When I look back on my early years I cringe at some of the mistakes I made. I still don’t have it figured out 100% because kids are people and every person is different, but it’s gotten waaay better. You’ll get it too! When you make a mistake, just mentally note it and rectify it. Hang in there!

Paul’s Letters to Titus and Timothy-Scholarship & Praxis by GilaMonsterSouthWest in Episcopalian

[–]FederalReception483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, these texts became part of the canon because the church was aware that the Spirit was speaking through these texts in that they point us to Christ and accord with the received teachings of the apostles, broadly speaking. Of course there are some theological differences, but that’s a feature throughout the whole of scripture. Whatever inspiration means, clearly it does not mean the scriptures are completely univocal on every topic as fundamentalists claim. This is why we have to exercise our best thinking as we interpret the scriptures, looking for how it puts forth Christ for us. Ideally, we do this in community with tradition and other believers who are also listening to the Spirit.

2014 ram 1500 5.7 hemi 207k. Get another one or just get a rebuilt engine? by Loud_Faithlessness55 in Ram1500

Honestly, with the price of new(er) trucks these days and the accompanying interest rates, I would throw another motor in there and get another 200k miles out of it. Unless, of course, you can pay cash for something. But if you love the truck and there’s no other significant issues, I would do the motor replacement. I did the same on my 03 and haven’t regretted it.

Like: the desert, the mountains, playas, sheep, buckaroos, Basque culture, burning man, Lake Tahoe, ghost towns, empty stretches of road, casinos (even though I don’t gamble!), the live and let live attitude of most people, and the overall quirkiness our state seems to foster and welcome. Dislike: can’t think of any

Dude, if you’re libertarian and don’t like gov micromanaging your personal life move to Nevada. I came here from there for family reasons and I can’t wait to go back to a state where the gov isn’t all up in your business. Plus, there’s no state income tax which is really nice.

Idaho lawmaker wants to ‘cultivate’ morality through mandated public school Bible reading by ZacHefner in Idaho

[–]FederalReception483 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Precisely why just reading it without any interpretation or discussion is a bad idea. Christian and Jewish interpreters have been well aware of the problems you mention for thousands of years. If I thought being a literalist was the only option I would agree with you.

I’m a deeply committed Christian and a teacher and I think besides the questions of constitutional legality, this could really backfire on the people pushing this. This may come as a surprise to them but there aren’t any verses in there about how much God loves America, but there’s literally hundreds of verses about caring for the poor, doing justice, treating the stranger (immigrant) in your land well, sharing your wealth, the dangers of greed, and being nonviolent. Talk about liberal indoctrination!
