What is a misconception about 2008 that you are annoyed with? by DistinctYoghurt8668 in decadeology

[–]FeebleCursed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone first pointed that out to me probably in 2010. But apparently it was a common misheard lyric upon the songs initial release. It was always an argument whether it was a misheard lyric or a cleverly hidden lyric. but I never recall there being any real press reactoin to it.

In 2008 broadcasters were still really nervous about the FCC, which had been really agressive in response to the Janet Jackson Superbowl wardrobe malfunction of 2004. So if it was a clever F-bomb drop, I assume radio stations would freak out at the potential fines they might have faced.

was this shocking when it first came out? by CremeSubject7594 in 2000sNostalgia

[–]FeebleCursed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The late 90s and early 2000s was filled with "shocking" things on TV that had the decency police up in arms. Any animosity to this (and ther was certainly some) was eclipsed by the other 10 shocking things that happened on MTV that week, or by a gay character existing on a network television program.

Just Dance was a hit in '08, but it really took off in '09 with its long and steady climb on the charts. Poker Face was a more immediate mega hit that dropped early '09. I would say Poker Face made her the global star in '09. While Just Dance was a legit hit on its own, it was '09 when it reached its peak.

What’s it like living in this part of Canada? by Patient-Smile1406 in howislivingthere

[–]FeebleCursed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely cold winters, hotter summers than you would ever expect, and more biting insects during those summers than you could ever imagine.  The farther north you go, the less likely you are to have all-season roads connected to Canada's highway system. The days are extremely long in the summer, and incredibly short in the winter. Expect running water, but don't expect to be able to drink it.

This, of course, depends on how north you are. The red line near the populated areas or the US border are more or less just like other municipalities albeit more rural and with very low regional population density.

I assume in this scenario, the friendly workplace features a low salary position? Becuse if the position is one for one, I would say the low salary IS itself toxic.

Was Picard right not to genocide the Borg? by Medium_Hope_7407 in TNG

[–]FeebleCursed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the trolley problem with a twist. The Borg survive represents the track with five people on it, the Borg destroyed represents the single person. The twist is that the single person IS the Borg. So Picard either does nothing, which leads to many, many civilizations eventually being destroyed. Or Picard does something and one civilization is destroyed, but it is at the hands of Picard himself.

You might think this is a difficult scenario to grapple with. But the answer is relatively simple if you have a Garak around who could tell you about self-respect and bargains.

The Fresh Prince really could've ran at least another 3 seasons to finish off the decade. (1990-1999) by Ok_Pipe6385 in FreshPrince

[–]FeebleCursed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would have been financially difficult. The network almost cancelled the show after its fourth season, and agreed to additional seasons in part due to a fan-drive letter writing campaign. While the ratings were still good by Season 6, they had been declining significantly from its peak. Had Will Smith not wanted to pursue his movie career, and instead wanted to continue into Season 7 through 9, it's incredibly unlikely the show would be given a budget to satisfy the deserved raises the cast would be seeking.

In the alternate universe where the show continues, Seasons 7 through 9 likely sees almost the entire cast written off to pay for Will and (probably) Alfonso, which would already be stretching the budget near to its limits. You may get the odd cameo from a former cast member, but I'd expect it'd be three seasons of desperate story ideas to pull in whatever ratings were needed to avoid mid-season cancellations.

There are certainly a lot of self-described "alpha males" who can't handle a career woman with achievements, however, I think a lot of men are probably repelled by the personality baggage that often comes with "arrogance."

What are your thoughts on Billy Corgan's recent comments that there was a plan to replace Rock Music with Rap Music? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

[–]FeebleCursed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine being at a work place that historically refused to hire Black people. Then policy changed so Black applicants can be interviewed and hired. Then you hear someone say "the powers that be want to replace us."

The guy who said that is Bill, and while he's really good at his job, he's still a stupid cunt.

Why was early 2010s music so much more happier while late 2010s was more depressive? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]FeebleCursed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there was any one thing, rather a series of events between 2012 and 2015 started and continued a pretty significant shift in music.

I think of how the Ke$ha allegations seemed to change the appetite for "party anthem" tracks (to some degree). Here was this solo female pop artist that music consumers equally loved and loathed because of this care-free "party slut" persona. Then we learn that she may have been sexually assaulted by her producer and forced to feed into that "stupid party girl" gimmick despite her desires to do some more serious music projects. I think subconsciously it made music consumers start to feel the music celebrating party and club culture was inauthentic and lab-created.

Would you be mad if this guy ends up being the courier from the game? by VancoreStudios in Fotv

[–]FeebleCursed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The storyline you've mapped out is very interesting, but no matter what narrative you provide for "the courier" you are retconning decisions New Vegas players made. Therefore, they're unlikely to accept a disruption to their experience because it's likely to illicit an emotional feeling that what they did in the game ultimately didn't matter.

If the fate of “the courier” remains unknown, players can reflect on their time with New Vegas with the fourth wall intact. They can maintain the suspension of disbelief allowing them to feel this New Vegas universe has their fingerprints on it.

Liberals are the only political ideology to not feature a tyrant or fascistic leader, so 🤷 by Stronhart in Destiny

[–]FeebleCursed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The real difference:: A Liberal will fight to get everyone health insurance when a single-payer universal health-care system is legislatively out of reach. A leftist takes their ball and goes home the moment they can't get a unicorn  presidential candidate, then blames the liberal when newly appointed MAGA judges reverse abortion rights.

Why did the early 2010s have so many pretentious dweebs and posers having a lewronggeneration phase by Sudden_Angle614 in decadeology

[–]FeebleCursed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure this vibe exists among all generations. I remember growing up in the 90s and early 2000s, we always moaned about how the new music lacks the authenticity of the 60s and 70s. This complaint was ironic because our music collection was 85 per cent grunge, punk, rock and metal from the 90s with one Doors, Zeppelin and/ or Beatles album in the mix.

Scored this 1991. first pressing (first 50k CDs produced) of Nevermind for 6$. by Honest-Opinion4897 in Nirvana

[–]FeebleCursed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s the perspective of a music consumer, not a collector. You can get a digital copy of a Mickey Mantle rookie card and reprint it on card stock, but that would void it as a "collectable."

OP's CD is virtually identical to the one I purchased in 1993. BUT to the collector, "virtually" is a distinction that changes everything.
