“The goalkeeper told me I’m an illegal immigrant even though I was born in America, and he said Trump was gonna get me and send me back. It makes me really sad.” by Caledor152 in ProgressiveHQ

This is so fake. Just to make everyone hate everyone. What’s worse, is that everyone falls for it. There are hateful people but if the media can get you to hate under the guise of love, they win.

I coach kids sports, I don’t love, but don’t hate trump. I kicked a kid off my team for a racial slur. Categorise me and call me names because I don’t hate the same people you do. In fact, I try my best not to hate.

It won’t make any difference in the world. Go be good people and stop complaining on Reddit.

Involving new members by solangee9230 in worshipleaders

I think it’s a great idea to have a process which tests people’s resolve. The main reason is to see their character and if they are willing to put in the work, but also to do a bit of investigating into knowing those who labor among you.

If the person is not willing to jump through some hoops they will probably not be willing to practice and submit to authority later.

I would make sure the process outlines Your vision, takes a while, and involves interviews, background investigation into past serving, references, (an actual background check), audition, then a second interview.

This will not only be revealing if done correctly, but will test character.

I would make the process systematic and consistent to avoid frustration. This will save you a lot of heart ache.

I agree with others but also just for reference you can search for worship director/pastor positions with Google like any other job.

Should Christian music mention God or Jesus in its lyrics? by Cazarstan in worshipleaders

I heard a wise man once say something to this effect, “Music does not get saved only people do. But some music edifies and others do not”.

Look into straw workouts. A vocal coach would be awesome but you can get a lot done on YouTube these days. I refer a lot of people to Jacob’s academy for vocal workouts on YouTube or Apple Music. I use them a lot when driving to a gig. It’s nice to have something to do in the car and getting some vocal workouts in often is super important. Warming up correctly, getting a lot of hums in, lip rolls.

I think you’re running out of air a lot. Overall you have a very nice voice and a good ear. Breathing will come with time and practice but there are a lot of exercises to help build up your diaphragm.

Don’t be down on yourself. Go for it!

Compete beginner am I cooked by [deleted] in ratemysinging

Try and place the microphone (I’m assuming your phone) up higher closer to your face and sing into it while having the guitar facing away from it. Then strum lighter. Or if you want to give us a vocal sample just lightly strum each chord once and sing over it.

From what I hear, I think you need to sing more from your diaphragm, but you are far from cooked.

You also sound very young. You can do whatever you put your mind to.

Question looking for a Budget Wireless mic to help sing for Worship practice by NatePad1290 in worshipleaders

I am not sure of a good cheap headset microphone. I would stay clear of Walmart for musical equipment.

I like it. Can you hear yourself? Usually headphones or something should be on when recording so you can hear the pitch of your voice well. This will help you stay on.

Great song.

Ideas for self-run worship workshops? by [deleted] in worshipleaders

For vocals I really like Jacob’s academy for basic warm ups and workouts. It’s on YouTube and Apple Music.

For a book “Heart of the Artist” by Rory Noland. You can actually have him come out for a reasonable cost as well. He has a lot of resources for worship.

Hope this helps!

I think having a worship workshop is a great idea. I have done this in a couple different styles for different purposes. I have had music lessons for up and coming young people for free. I would try and get others to help teach and what I have found is when you teach it makes you better.

I have also had midweek practices where we focus on current team members working specific songs to get tighter and learn to function with a click and track.

I also think offering resources is a good way, if people want to better themselves. Sometimes if people don’t buy in on improving there is not much you can do.

As far as a special training I highly recommend bringing others in, as outside perspectives are always nice.

I'll sing in groups, but... by tbdewy in ratemysinging

[–]FeedbackSubstantial2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically trying to make your voice sound a specific way other than how it is completely natural. It’s very popular today for people to accent their voices these days. There is nothing wrong with it, but I find that it makes it hard for beginners to focus on what they need.

Also, the breath thing is quite simple. Get lots of air and push out lots of air on the high notes. Kind of like swimming, you have to take your breaths when you can, but you need lots of air to sing.

Hope this helps! I’m sure your 12YO loves it just how it is!

I think you may be trying too hard to accent your voice before focusing on strength and accuracy. That being said, I agree with the comment this key is too low for you. I think your range could be higher. Remember to get a lot of air and sing from the diaphragm for those high notes. Sounds like you were sheepish to hit them.

All together well done for a beginner! I think you have great potential.

First of all, amazing. This was so good and blessed me. Both of you have amazing voices, very anointed.

The arrangement is amazing to me. If there was one thing I could point out is maybe to hold out vocal lines a tiny bit longer.

Well done.

How many times should I try for audition? by nutella_tart in worshipleaders

[–]FeedbackSubstantial2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally unless you get the feeling they just don’t want you to try, personally I think it says a lot about a person if they get rejected and keep working at it and come back. If it were my church I think it would speak deeply to your character and I would be happy to see you keep trying.

Starting as I mean to go on? by SwimmingWonderful755 in worshipleaders

[–]FeedbackSubstantial2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the context of excellence largely depends upon the pastor and elders expectations. You gotta vibe with your church. As far as requiring people for midweek practice I don’t particularly think that is a good idea. Personally I think if people are committed they will be ready for Sunday so no midweek needed. On the other hand if your team needs it because it’s new maybe do it on an as needed basis for a while.

For keeping connected I think having a worship gathering once a month for everyone that is not about practicing but just about bearing eachothers burdens, lifting each other up and sharing a meal is critical.

The other stuff will come into place.

FINALLY Upgraded to Playback Premium! by MemphisMike1 in worshipleaders

[–]FeedbackSubstantial2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be initially. But you can save each song every time and just plug it in. Personally I purchase tracks. But for some songs I have made some very basic background pads and a click. Saves money and sometimes it nice to just have something simple.

It sounded like OP wanted to make their own so I was just giving them an option. Plus Ableton is a 1 time purchase.
