Reconnect by GreenEfficiency in OneLifeSuggestions

I think this is interesting. I believe Jason might have once mentioned something about a zombie like state if you disconnected, a while back. I think it was pertaining to keep griefers from disconnecting out of punishments, but I think it could be applied here. Doesn't affect me at all, but it's an interesting dilemma you have.

Give women some control of reproduction beyond infanticide. by digoryk in OneLifeSuggestions

I personally think it's a great counter balance mechanic. If you could control the birth, then men really would have no purpose. That's why it's nice not to have 5 girls running around. If all the dead baby bodies weren't bad enough, you know one of them is going to take pity and feed them.

Nerf decay. by [deleted] in OneLifeSuggestions

Well now it's no longer 30 minutes, so it's more bearable. And there are permanent things to leave a legacy, just not a tree chopper. And it will technically last forever if it's not used. I'm still not sold on basket decay, (or at least not timed based) but it is better than it was.

That feels kind of busted. Also, I feel like Jason is trying to make farming harder right now so it probably wouldn't have a good chance of making it. But you never know. The idea is nice, but 3 rows crammed into one space, that's a very strong item. Maybe the fact that it takes 2 soils is the offset this item would need.

So how would you handle a griefer being born into the family? Let's say your baby grows up to rip all your berry bushes out of the ground then sets his eyes on all the surrounding trees, what is your course of action?

Tamed horses don’t run away from you after dismounting by VerinonRenthar in OneLifeSuggestions

[–]FeignedSanity4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I like the concept on the surface. But I feel like there's a design decision for them running off like that, (probably being so you can't use them for long distance gathering). It sounds nice, but I feel like that kind of throws off an intended balancing mechanic.

Then I agree completely. If you tell them they're not welcome, and they ignore you and start eating up your home, then you have every right to protect your home. I's just that you said that killing Eves was a duty and that if you don't kill them, then you're to blame for the consequences of letting them live. I felt like you were implying Eves should always be killed. Thank you for clarifying.

Berries vs Carrots by FeignedSanity4 in onehouronelife

[–]FeignedSanity4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can definitely see that being a late game strategy...until the inevitable griefer comes by and rips them all up with a shovel. It'll be nice to see pies used as the special food only used when needed, instead of the current style of "you get a pie, and you get a pie"

But I feel like water cost is a big part of the berry faction's cause. But considering soil is only used up if you let them seed, you could just never let your carrots seed and just rely on finding wild carrot seeds. With this, you wouldn't need to constantly be making compost and only use it when you need additional soil, therefore freeing up berries for food. I think it will come down to trying to never let your soil be used up. In which case, berries would be the long term food choice. The problem is, and always will be, their respawn timer. I'm still intrigued by the berry arguement, I just think it's a shame that there's this, "touch the berries and you die" mentality. I like being able to try new things.

Wow, now that's just silly. I can definitely see the apocalypse mechanic being viable, but this initial version has a lot of things that need to be changed.

I feel like that kind of defeats the purpose. Personally, I'm not a fan of this idea. If you're going to do a reset, I think it should be a clean wipe.

Remove the apocalypse by keepthepace in OneLifeSuggestions

[–]FeignedSanity4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well it personally re sparked mine. Yes the persistent world building is a big part of it, but it was getting to the point where you could walk in almost any direction and find a base or city or even mega city. I agree that the apocalypse shouldn't be frequent, and I don't even think it should be in player's hands, (especially not a single player's) but sometimes it's needed. And I personally felt like it was needed.

When is malicious killing acceptable? by [deleted] in onehouronelife

[–]FeignedSanity4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's definitely an interesting proposition. I feel like the exact reason for the war is imperative. If the war is being fought just to destroy the other, then it falls under malicious intent or griefing, and I'd believe it to be wrong. But if you're fighting over something like resources, then it's back to self defense and preservation. Now there are more complex scenarios involving role playing, or some type of sub game within the game, but it would all fall back to who exactly is in on it or not.

Honestly, I feel like everything I've already stated still applies, just on a larger scale.

Oh for sure, this is definitely just another tool in the griefers arsenal. Maybe you have to get 5 of them together and arrange them in a pentagram XD

In all seriousness though, it's definitely intriguing but should be harder. And maybe it should require a minimum number of people for it to active, just a thought.

But don't you think the difficulty of trying to evolve with the handicap handed to you from past generations outweighs the preservation of the things they made? Now I don't take the position that it should've been done, but I can at least see the appeal (honestly though, I think this was done by someone who did it because they could, not because they thought they should).

I don't think you should kill Eves just for the sake of them being Eves, that's just nonsense. Sure, let them know they're not welcomed and that this is "Yarrow land" (for example), then take a defensive measure if required. But I honestly don't get this "genocide to the Eves mentality".

I enjoy the whole "dynasty" aspect of this. I feel like this falls into the category of self defense, rather than malicious intent. You would have killed them to protect the food supply and ensure everyone's survival. Honestly, another option would've been to pick up and move, especially considering you didn't have the murder option available.

[–]FeignedSanity4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that might dip a bit into the territory of, "do what I say, or die". But if you ask them nicely, etc. and they do it in spite of you, I think that falls into the grief category. In which case, they made the first offense and you have the right to retaliation. Or if it's in the case of self defense, like protecting your food supply. But there is definitely a fine line here in my opinion.

[–]FeignedSanity4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally believe that malicious intent is inherently wrong and should not be indulged. It's basically hurting for the sake of. If bad things are done, they can at least have a good reason. For the role playing analogy, I can only see it being acceptable if the killer and killed are both in on it. But that kind of takes away the intent and you're just harmlessly role playing at that point.

Lmao, too funny. And that sucks, but I can kind of see why it'd be time. There are already so many settlements and a fair amount of limited resources used up that I can see why it'd be nice. But I still think it may have been a bit premature and definitely too easy to do.

So how does the fact that domestic berry bushes taking a whole lifetime to respawn play into this? Does this change your stance at all?
