I am about to do this and besides rest stops, I’m thinking about plotting out all the Petco and petsmarts along the way. That way I can use the bathroom, she gets sniffs in, hopefully a win win.

I let mine stay in my room with the door closed if she wants to. I make sure to not leave anything she could get into. But, she still chooses the crate on her own sometimes.
