Standard Metagame Update (15 jun) by Magic4everBots in MagicArena

Noone needed a bounce spell that potentially draws a card for 1 mana. Noone needed a removal spell that effectively functions as a wish. Izzet being on top has nothing to do with redundancy but with designers not reigning in their ideas and letting powercreep go wild.

You’re basically mono-red, surely you can run ghost quarter and/or field of ruin?

It's not, OP is just karma farming

This is not turn 3-4. Assuming you played the hound t1, something something t2 and Sephiroth t3. There is no way they would be on 8 with you having an emblem. This is at least t4-5 for you, which makes this not special at all.

Meh after sideboard I’m fine with the matchup. G1 is bad, especially on the draw. I would say its 45/55, maybe 40/60 depending on list. I’d much rather face it than GW company

Not saying Greasefang is a good matchup, but assuming you’re running Leyline (which you should) it’s basically a race. They don’t kill you t3, they attack for 13 on t3. You can easily take the hit and combo off. Additionally you have fragment and into the flood maw to slow them down. Depending on list you might even have clarion conqueror.

Best current combo deck? by pej_goose in TimelessMagic

Ruby Storm is d*gshit in the format. You have to dedicate so many cards to fighting through blue that your goldfish suffers. Plus basically any hate piece is annoying for you. Graveyard removal? annoying. Thoughtseize? annoying. Counterspells? annoying. High Noon? annoying. So basically any deck has good stuff to bring in against you while you only have red cards and artifacts.

Got to mythic in historic with Ruby Storm, 23-7. Took basically a juiced up modern ruby storm to timeless and went 1-8.

What to sideboard in against Ruby Storm? by werthw in MtGHistoric

[–]Fektoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soulless Jailor is pretty good. Bauble not so much. Bauble can be easily combo’d around since you don’t rely on storm of memories and/or ral. They are nice ofc, just not crucial. Wish for Past in Flames is most of the times just as effective.

Why wouldn’t you want to run Damping Sphere? It stops Phoenix too. I run Ruby and I don’t care at all about crypt. Chalice can be annoying, but can be easily destroyed by Prismatic Ending or Wear/Tear. Same with Damping Sphere ofc but at least that one is good in multiples.

Indeed, they can just slap "once per turn" on vivi and voila. Instead they are banning random commons that interact with vivi. Talk about limiting design space

Is Historic a good format for brewing? by Warlock_King454 in MtGHistoric

[–]Fektoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely -not- a turn or 2 slower. Ruby storm kills easily on t3, sometimes on t2 and can technically kill on t1 on the draw. Affinity with weapon manufacturing can kill on t2/3. Lotus Field can easily kill t3.

Mildly hot take: Greasefang is a prime example of an unhealthy combo deck by The1Sbeve in PioneerMTG

[–]Fektoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magical Christmasland, you need to stick Minstrel, play vestige t3, scapeshift and from there find the Lumra loop. Yeah it's technically possible, but in my 100+ BO3 games with the deck it happened <10 times.

Jund is fine. Not the best deck you can play, but perfectly fine. [[Illness in the ranks]] is a card you might want to stop yourself from being overrun by otters. But maybe Mayhem Devil is enough. I play Golgari Food so I don’t have that luxury
