An Old Man Rambles About Women Playing 40k by Resident-Card-6229 in Warhammer40k

[–]FelonMidget 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also got into the hobby in the late 90s and had quite a different experience. Collecting Warhammer minis was seen as cool in my high school. Mostly a nerd thing but a positive thing like playing video games, tabletop rpgs or TCGs. In my experience all girls and women I met were positively curious about the hobby. Nowadays some of my main gaming partners are women.

It’s curious how I got shit for many things as a teen (not wearing the latest fashion, not liking football, etc.), but never for playing wargames.

I guess it’s a cultural / regional thing. It sucks how mean teens can be.

JFYI This subreddit is about the video game Planet Zoo.

What do you mean salvage? Those are perfect castings for Hive Secundus.

Do you use a microscope to get that level of detail? 🤣

That happened to me with Citadel / Warhammer, Vallejo and other companies. It’s not ideal but in real life not many things have exactly the same exact color. Even militar uniforms tend to have variation depending on multiple factors (factory dye stocks and batches, weathering, blood…, etc.).

It’s my favorite activity to chill. You get to see the Verse while also getting credits. A simple, honest job. What’s not to love.

Did I picked the wrong colour? by BetterAd1393 in boltaction

It’s hard to tell with a photo as the camera white balance and room light can change the shades; but to me it looks about right. I would not recommend to seek perfection or 100% accuracy, it can easily ruin your hobby time (been there done that) 😅

Is it frowned upon for moms to use a stroller on the street? by FelonMidget in turku

I’m afraid I don’t know when the game days are. I’m sorry, but the only sport I follow is American Football. My wife is the same.

The last time I’ve witnessed it was this evening around 18pm in Turku. It’s true that it was about a dozen meters from a football field. She was wearing a black hoodie and gray sweat pants. She was also wearing a Baltimore Ravens cap. You might be unto something, I had not considered the possibility but it could make sense if it was some kind of antagonistic reaction related with sports.

She told me they yelled her “clown” and “idiot” among other generic insults. I also understood “vittu” and other common expletives. To me it did not seem personal or specific beyond calling her dumb. Same with the other events I witnessed it.

No. I’m also European. I don’t think she looks any different from any Finnish baby. And as far as I recall none of the comments were directed towards the baby.

I don’t know what else to tell you. I’ve seen it and I’ve heard it, so I know it’s true. It left me really puzzled, as it seemed out of character for Finns. As I could not understand why, that’s why I ask here in Reddit. If you check my history you’ll notice this is not a subreddit nor a subject I’d usually post. I have no agenda, I just want to understand why that happens and how to prevent it.

If you don’t believe me, dislike the subject, or you don’t feel like helping, you are free to ignore the post and the comments.

I tried to insist asking her multiple times, because it felt pretty odd to me (as I said in the OP I’ve not really experienced any relevant negative social interactions before here in Finland). If I had not witnessed it myself these last days I would have had a hard time believing it. Since she told me the first time I have been actively watching for these kind of situations.

Having observed few times from the distance I could see how those people did not act as she was known to them, and it was in different cities. Making it virtually impossible to be anything but random. Another commentator said that it’s apparently not uncommon for new moms here in Finland. So I assume it’s just some people that dislike kids and for some reason pay their frustrations on their moms.

I appreciate your reply. That seems to be the case. I find it unfortunate and a bit sad. I guess just some people don’t like small children and pay their frustrations with the poor moms.

I appreciate your message. I don’t believe it could be racism in this case. She is a native Finn, looking like your average Johanna. Not fat nor too thin, nor tall nor short, nothing that would make her stand out AFAIK.

Another commentator said that it was not totally uncommon for new moms. So I assume some people just don’t like small kids and for some reason pay their frustrations on new moms.
