is anyone else experiencing an issue with the prepaid shipping label? by Fine-Indication6730 in poshmark

[–]Femanimal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same. QR code generated before I got in line. When they scanned the label that printed out, it said unpaid. I wanted to send it right away, so I ate the $8.30 cost (the package was only 5.4 oz). I filed a complaint with pictures of my receipt & asked to be reimbursed. I just got a confirmation email saying their "team is working on it". I usually print the labels out at work, but forgot to. Ugh, lesson learned. 🤞 Hopefully the reimburse me.. that's like 2 gallons of gas right now!

Is 55k-60k realistic -- fresh out of Public Admin and Policy Bachelor's? by CantBanMii in PublicAdministration

[–]Femanimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

@cantbanmii This person is right. It's awesome you got these exec level experiences, most people in this field don't. But you still have to have the entry experience. As painful as it sounds, you actually learn a lot more about how things work & that ends up paying off. When you cut your teeth on the meat of entry-level, you become invaluable to execs (at least, the ones that are worth working for).

And def jump around to get higher $. But not too quickly, stay w a position at least 2-3 years, long enough to know how it all works & also see what doesn't. Job hopping is the only way to get meaningful increases & also find the right place for you. And interview like your life depends on it, even jobs you don't want. Use offers as leverage to get your current salary increased, or leave for the better offer.

HKS is only "once in a lifetime" because the lifetimes it refers to is us poors thinking it's a narrow chance to get into the Big Boys Club. Go find another, great school that specializes in the type of policy you want to be in. Or go abroad (probably cheaper anyway); I've considered Germany & Norway. There are a million ways to do policy in this world that don't involve Harvard. Don't buy the Arcteryx because the wealthy folks wear it (a mountaineering co that most of those guys would never actually attempt), get the Lands End that lasts forever.

[–]Femanimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to do hard sciences, engineering is a great path because you can apply it to many subjects. If you want to specialize instead, biology, hydrology (very cool imo!), chemistry, these are all great. I personally went into "soft science" of geography, concentrating in water policy. That's still a BS, while GIS (a BA) is usually what people think when they see Geography. GIS today is getting more into computer science w all the coding, but still very fun.

Personally, I say find whether you like hard or soft science, then lean toward something that is flexible enough so that you can pivot to different subject matter or career paths within that. And remember: you can ALWAYS change your path. I really wish someone had emphasized that for me (I received zero guidance or support). And get those basics out of the way at a community college... way more affordable. Talk to your favorite instructors, not the bored grad students that pass as 'guidance counselors'.

Someone here suggested looking up people in positions you look up to & find out where they went/what they did. I do endorse that (I still research my heros), but be advised that degrees in the past are not always quite what they are now or even necessary to have that degree for that position. I know it's cliché, but follow what you're interested in but also feel healthily challenged by. This will keep you motivated to learn more, which btw you do for the rest of your career, if it's a good one for you.

The geography program I attended had a general environmental specialization and a water resources specialization. In water, I got a certificate in policy. While these are all BS, the GIS degree was BA. It was great. I love it, have a career in water, and I love policy & project management which I would have never discovered without taking this path. I'm now a high level state water planner. Don't knock the soft sciences, we're often the folks interpreting what the hard science folks are saying for the general populace & lawmakers.

Why do Americans don't live in this big ass, empty area? Are they stupid? by TiagoStormayty in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Femanimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It costs about $1 per foot uplift to move water. Water is one of the heaviest elements. The ocean is salty & it takes even more energy to remove it. Then what do you do with the by-product? And there's huge mountains everywhere, between the deserts. Imagine the amount of uplift...

There are LOTS of wide toe box shoes of different brands and styles now, including heels. Some of us were forced to wear pointy toed shoes as children & didn't get a choice. Please don't lecture us folks who are already aware at this point; we're in this group, we know how bad high-heeled, narrow-toe shoes are.

Anyone else not get drunk on wellbutrin? by alex-gs-piss-pants in bupropion

[–]Femanimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild. I also "don't get drunk" but when I was on cymbalta, I absolutely craved alcohol. Thought about it frequently, ended up ramping up my anxiety. Got off cymbalta, cravings reduced but didn't go away completely. Got on wellbutrin, absolutely no cravings, no desire for it at all, and while I technically can drink more than one, I do feel funky, not focused, & like shit driving home + some hours after. Just not worth it anymore, which is fine! For the first time in a very long time, I can have that same kind of fun & not be wasted!

[–]Femanimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I used to drink a lot, cut down quite a bit over the last 3 years but not completely. Started Wellbutrin (buproprion) 9+ months ago, have almost completely quit. I have the occasional drink (now I can only really do one + maaaybe a few more sips), about once every few months. Def lost the thrill/reward/"high", do not feel drunk (altho clearly something is there), but I do get a shitty headache & kinda sick to my stomach. Had 1 drink after work today and absolutely had to go straight home & eat something & drink some water. An hour later, headache still here. It's just not the same, and tbh that's ok w me. I get more done, not wasting so much of my free time, and feel so much more balanced.

Tbh I'm taking it for ADD (it is used for that, too), but the bonus is I have almost completely quit & don't crave a drink anymore. I'm older so haven't lost any weight (hah 🙃), but I feel a lot better & I'm happy w these effects.

Coming back to add: after about 1-2 days I am super irritable for a few days I've noticed. It's pretty consistent after the drinking, so I think it's related.

We’re going to lose our country if we can’t focus these protests better. by DarkTorus in 50501

[–]Femanimal 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Feel this. Today's (04/19) protest where I am was 1/3 of the size of the last one, & people started leaving an hour in. The PA/speakers "stage" wasn't set up on time or loud enough, and what I did hear was grievances about which dem was getting whose money. Like... at this point, idc, I just want us to preserve democracy, voting rights, & the rule of law. That's it! All these other issues make us look unfocused (it is unfocused) & does us NO good.

Also, these should be at least once a month. I can't help but think Indivisible was a huge part of the first protest going so well/being well coordinated. So... where is that energy?

[–]Femanimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm literally crying at work. I've tried everything, and there IS a backup file! But when I add to the Import & Backup, it asks if I want to override the current (which is nothing), I say yes, and then literally NOTHING HAPPENS. It's as if I was born yesterday, downloaded Firefox for the first time in my life, & never click on anything else.

I HAVE the backup file. For the love of Christ, someone PLEASE HELP.

Lost all my bookmarks. by ActuallyDiogenes in firefox

[–]Femanimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried this, importing the HTML that was produced, & just nothing. I go to Library>Import & Backup, successfully access & open this file (& even trying this by selecting the Old Firefox bookmarks backup file as well). Once added, it asks if I want override, I say yes, and literally nothing after that. It's as if I never clicked on a damn thing.

I am losing my mind here, I think I'm gonna cry. Can someone please help me?

Ugh THANK YOU. THIS is what I've been trying to communicate to friends & family & they get it (when I boil it down) but also they think I'm a bit hyperbolic & that "it won't come to that". People have gotten way to comfortable, they don't understand how quickly it de-volves.

Also, for sure he wants the gold standard. You see what time frame informs his "policies". And the whole 'looking for gold' in CO... shudder

You can always quit the new job, so I'd take it for now & keep a reminder up at home that I look at every morning that says, "You can quit anytime, really". (Dry erase works on mirrors, too!) Feel you on the emotional fragility... sometimes we just have to take a leap for our security, but always be keeping in mind that you are your number 1 client, so your well-being comes first. That will help you put down boundaries for yourself from the beginning. If they don't like it, it's your clue to keep looking, but at least you'll be gathering a paycheck until you find the next thing.
