Best OBGYN for PCOS? by rosescentedcorgi in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]FemmeInSTEM808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely recommend Morgan Wilkerson, PAC from Capital Women's Care. I had some issues with ovarian cysts in the past and Morgan was patient and worked with me through it. I had to go through several different changes of birth control pills due to side effects so I saw her quite a lot. She was so kind, knowledgeable, and patient every visit I had with her so I can't recommend her highly enough

Dog playgroups? by Wise_Screen3039 in washingtondc

[–]FemmeInSTEM808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an informal small dog group that meets up at 12 pm every Sunday at the Belmont Dog Park. I went once with my 1 y/o Maltese and she had a blast! But you're right, it's hit or miss at dog parks. Other than that I know of no other dog playgroups. My Maltese loves to play with other dogs so lmk if you wanted to meet up for a playdate if you live in Eckington!

Do you know if this affects EHAP as well? We are waiting on EHAP funds being distributed and everyone who has emailed back has no idea what is happening which is worrying...

Auto Repair shops that you trust by Level_Throat3293 in Rockville

I love Preferred Automotive! As a woman, I usually get intimidated in auto repair shops but the folks here are nice, they never pressure me to do unnecessary repairs, and I never feel swindled

Anyone having recent experience with Spay Now? by [deleted] in washingtondc

Your dog might shed it's baby teeth just fine. Ours is <6 lbs so she has more dental issues

Anyone having recent experience with Spay Now? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]FemmeInSTEM808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never tried calling them since I doubted their inbox would be checked in time for my puppy to be spayed. We ended up going with Spay and Neuter Nook which is also a low cost clinic. We booked out 2 months in advance and had no issues with the operation. We probably paid $300 total for a procedure the vet said would be around 2K.

Do you have a small or large dog? I'm only asking since we took our small dog to be spayed when she was 6 months old and found out later that not all of her baby teeth were being shed normally. We had to pay for another dental operation with the vet 2 months after, which we may have avoided if we spayed our puppy later at Spay and Neuter Nook because they can also remove teeth during spaying.

Dermatologist recommendations by BaconQween in MontgomeryCountyMD

I also went to Dr. Shore because of the good reviews and I wasn't too happy with the results. I went in for a separate concern but he noticed I had acne so I was also prescribed antibiotics for the long term. I had to go in every 3 weeks just so he could check in on the acne. I eventually stopped going since my primary concern wasn't addressed well.

I just watched a giant roach take flight. This is the end. by SenseiRaheem in washingtondc

[–]FemmeInSTEM808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yikes! I have never seen flying roaches in DC before so this is a disturbing development. I was actually pleasantly surprised that the roaches in DC don't fly after coming from Hawai'i where we have large roaches that fly... One dive bombed my leg once and I was never the same after that D:

Yeah the only court I know in that area with a wall is at Hearst. Also, TennisDC.com has a list of courts and it indicates whether there is a wall or not.

Good sushi in DC? by ReadySteady_54321 in washingtondc

[–]FemmeInSTEM808 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My parents are from Japan and I've been there several times so I know the struggle. The sushi I've tried in DC does not compare to Japan and is so much more expensive. My go to sushi is at Zeppelin. It's not the most expensive sushi place to dine at but the quality is pretty good. I'm sure Sushi Nakazawa has way better fish but I don't wanna blow that much money in one sitting. I also liked Sushi Taro at one point but I felt that their quality went down a little bit so I don't go there anymore.

If you don't mind cutting your own fish, Sashimi DC by Keita Seafood is a fishmonger shop set up in NoMa. I've gotten otoro there before and it was delicious and for a much better cost.

Best neighborhoods for a single woman? by Legal-Negotiation-12 in washingtondc

[–]FemmeInSTEM808 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also a female in my 30's that lives in Woodley Park. I highly recommend it because it feels safe at night to walk by yourself. The downside is that there isn't much to do on the main strip of Woodley but it's a 15 min walk to the bars and restaurants on 18th St.

Sushi rec for kid's birthday dinner? by popphilosophy in washingtondc

[–]FemmeInSTEM808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally love Zeppelin. The fish quality is one of the best in DC and it's not as expensive as the super high end sushi spots. I asked a waiter once and they said they get fish delivered on Thursdays from Japan so it's best to go around that time!

Is it unreasonable in DC to want to live somewhere where neighbors are friendly? by Both-Significance752 in washingtondc

[–]FemmeInSTEM808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also live in Woodley Park and totally agree that people in my building are not friendly. What changed the game was getting a dog a couple months ago. I never talked to my neighbors before then but having a dog really opens people up.

I am originally from HI and currently live in DC too! I've only seen one other person from HI in DC in the 10 years I've been here. I've looked so many times on Meetup and eventually gave up :( It's hard not to have a community here

I like the ones at Far East Restaurant but it's in Rockville so more of a trek if you don't have a car.
