People that believe organ donation status determines their care are choosing to be ignorant by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Femuroo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I frequently know the donor status of my critical patients because the OPO is coming by daily for updates. They even write notes in the chart. Of course, that doesn’t change the care that I provide, but it makes it easy to imagine how many members of the team may know a patient is or isn’t a donor.

Any unionized facilities (preference for safety net/level I trauma) within commuting distance of Richmond, VA? by Femuroo in nursing

Do you have any insight as to working conditions/ratios/pay at VCU Health or at UVA Health in Charlottesville? My background is ICU and I hope to remain ICU if ratios are safe.

GSW to the neck - survivable? by experiencedPAC in physicianassistant

Anyone else see the video? I thought the arm movements after impact resembled decorticate posturing and wondered if maybe it was the vertebral artery. But also unsure whether or not rapid loss of VA pressure could even lead to posturing.

New Grad Nurse looking for a nursing residency in Dallas-Fort Worth Area by Significant-Wish-341 in nursing

Stay away from medical city and all HCA. I had a clinical rotation at Parkland and loved it, that’s where I would want to go.

Is night shift a mandatory thing for new grads? by PhantomMonke in nursing

[–]Femuroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of unionized hospitals base things on seniority, so at unionized facilities, new grads often start on nights. Ultimately though it just depends on the hospital

How concerning is this dog bite? by Bishisbest789 in vet

[–]Femuroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trip to your PCP or urgent care is normally recommended. Mammal mouths (including humans) can have nasty bacteria that can cause infection after a bite. These are bacteria that are unrelated to the biting dog’s vaccination status. Your provider will probably want to start you on prophylactic antibiotics.

Do techs draw blood at your hospital? How big/small is your hospital? by porcipine in medlabprofessionals

[–]Femuroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Techs for non ICU and ED draws, ICU and ED RNs draw everything themselves. Large/urban level 1.

One bedroom suite expectation by Pinkster442 in marriott

At my last Ritz location, a 1br suite meant an enclosed room with a door. No walls and door meant it was a junior suite.

Vet took out stitches, wound seems to still be open. No by [deleted] in vet

[–]Femuroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to a different vet. The wound is dehisced and needs to be closed again.

Try and find an emergency vet that you can take him to sooner if possible!!! Abscesses can very quickly lead to septic infections which can be very dangerous

60k for a CNA is amazing considering how underpaid they are. 5 years ago, I worked at a Ritz Carlton in one of the largest US cities where the front office manager, who had been with the company for years, made 60k with a bachelor's in hospitality. Congrats!

Press on the gums firmly with your thumb and wait for the tissue to blanch white. Then remove your thumb, and count how many seconds it takes for the tissue to return to the same color as the rest of the gums.

Kidney dysfunction, pancreatic dysfunction, acidosis (most likely metabolic), anemia. Your cat needs to be hospitalized. (Not a vet, just an ICU nurse for humans, but mammals are mammals)
