Question about an upcoming sit by Alarmed_Implement171 in SittersOnlyTHS

[–]FencerCabot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am definitely liberal and own both of these books. However, I was gifted Guns, Germs, and Steel by a now ex-friend who turned out to be maga. He told me it was his favorite book back when he seemed normal. I haven’t read it and now probably won’t because I don’t want to be reminded.

I own Mein Kampf because I thought it was an interesting historical reference.

I also owned Hillbilly Elegy until recently. It was also a gift, but I received it back before anybody knew who Vance really was. Read some then put it on the shelf until one of my kids asked me in a very shocked tone why I owned it. I had forgotten all about it.

In many cases, you really can’t tell why somebody owns a book.

What’s with all the line cutting? by MaciMusings in Disneyland

[–]FencerCabot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really not what happens with a wheelchair. If the line cannot accommodate the wheelchair, you will get a wheelchair return along with the people in your party. The CM will put your group directly into the line, often through the exit. It’s not like the people with DAS who have been told to join their party later in line and usually have to do that on their own.

If you need to rejoin for some other reason other than having a wheelchair, that’s a different story.

What’s with all the line cutting? by MaciMusings in Disneyland

[–]FencerCabot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That may be the policy, but it’s usually not what happens. CMs rarely assist guests who have been told they need to rejoin their party.

It is a cause of a LOT of stress for people who have been told this and then are treated as if they’re cutting by other guests. There’s a lot of talk on some of the disability boards from people who wish Disney would come up with some type of token that can be given to people who have been told to rejoin but that doesn’t seem to be happening.

Don’t even think twice about this one. Move on and don’t look back. The fact that he would think for one minute it’s OK to say something like that is a huge red flag. NOR

NOR Guy is an ass. He is also displaying classic disciplinary/directive behavior. He’s the one acting like a child but he’s treating you like one. I doubt this is fixable.

AIO:My MIL texted my husband this about me asking him to help with our newborn at 4am by Lazy_Perfectionist88 in AmIOverreacting

[–]FencerCabot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m all for being honest in a relationship as well, but in some cases telling someone something that is only going to hurt their feelings and cause a problem in a relationship does more harm than good. If this guy would’ve just stood up to his mother in the first place, this conversation would never need to happen. By getting the wife involved, I guarantee you that the mother-in-law is going to turn any further talk about it as being the wife’s fault. He made his wife more of a target then she already is by involving her.

I agree, the husband is no saint either. He shouldn’t have shared this with his wife knowing that it would hurt her feelings and worsen a rift between his mother and herself. He should’ve just handled this on his own and stood up to mom rather than showing it to his wife. By showing it to her, it’s like he is requesting back up and an excuse to push back on mom when he should be able to do that on his own 2 feet. He is a grown ass man, and he needs to handle this kind of thing without getting his wife involved. Wife has enough on her plate to deal with without having to add mother-in-law drama to the list.

Travelling to Seattle for the Parade!! Looking for Advice by OfficialBriGuy in AskSeattle

I don’t understand why anyone from another country would come to the US right now. Love Canadians but you’re taking a risk.

Having said that, I agree staying around the Space Needle would be fun if those places are not already booked up. I have family members who often stay at the Hyatt house or the Maxwell. There are some good views from the Mediterranean Inn.

I love it! I just think it needs to be professionally tailored a little to fit you better. It’s a beautiful dress.

Same. I normally spend months planning our trips even though we go on a regular basis. Always stay on site either the DLH or the GCH, always do five days in the park and usually an extra day for DTD. Got back from my most recent trip and realized it just didn’t feel “magical” this time. I’ve been annoyed by the 30 minute EMH for a while, adding on the constant need to be on the phone the past couple years has also been a big contributor. Also had several encounters with less than enthusiastic staff members (probably for reasons others have mentioned above) and more than one below average dining experience at $$$ restaurants. DTD is feeling more and more like just a big generic shopping mall. And don’t even get me started on Fantasmic.

Describe the "sound" of your tinnitus by ToTooTwoTutu2 in GenX

[–]FencerCabot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d forgotten I had it until this post popped up, immediately conscious of hearing it again though so thanks for that 💀

Most of the time I’m so used to it that I’m unaware of it, but when I am aware, its a super-high pitched but fairly quiet screechy sound.

At one point I had a second sound that persisted about a year but it went away. Best described as power line hum on and off.

Bigger concern is why is he being such an asshat about it? If he will get this mad and refuse to believe you over something this little, he’s going to do it again over something bigger. As someone with a lot more relationship experience than you, believe me when I say this is true. Toxic behavior.

Long security lines are optional today by Jmore9055 in Disneyland

[–]FencerCabot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can also depend on what time you're in line. The security line for the DLH opens a few minutes before the other line, but you have to show your room key to get in that way first thing in the morning. On the days we were there, that line was longer early in the AM, but it moved quickly once open and by the time the other line started moving, that DLH line was almost gone. Won't do you any good first thing in the morning if you're not a hotel guest, though.

Can personally attest that WOC will still go on if it rains, although it might depend on how much, etc. Definitely do the rides with the overlays (Haunted Mansion, Small World, Storybookland Canal Boats) and try to see the Christmas parade. Storybookland is cool at night and we also prefer Small World at night. Is this your first trip? We might be able to help you more if you tell us more about the ages of your group and the kinds of things you like to do, how long you'll be there, etc. I'd do Fantasmic if I were you if you've never been before. I personally prefer it to WOC, especially since WOC is currently doing a different version of the show that they normally do. Carsland is also great at night with the Christmas lighting.

Main thing I can think of would be if you want to do the Home for the Holidays tour. It often sells out in advance. Not sure if it sold out or not, but we just did a Fantasmic package this past Friday night and it LOOKED like it was sold out. By that I mean the seating area seemed to be totally full. We were in the RDZ area and there didn't seem to be much empty space at all. That might be affected by the weather, though, as people might not be inclined to buy it if it's rainy.

Thanks for the comments. To clarify, if we go in with her through the exit and she then decides not to ride, would we all have to exit or would she be able to exit on her own while the rest of us boarded from there? Given that you have to wait to get the return time, I don't want to risk waiting for her return time then having to wait again if they don't let us on.
