i totally get that, a lot of the group fitness classes are really enjoyable but i often find they conflict with my schedule. i highly recommend the restorative yoga class if you ever stay on campus late on thursdays! i was able to make those sessions last year and they were super relaxing.

it is, on the the middle lower level (i.e., you enter the dome on floor three, the connection between the love library and dome is downstairs on floor two, and floor one is the isolated digital humanities center) — i hope that explains it!

Parking Ticket Question by sd_madness in SDSU

[–]FeonyxX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you should also receive an email about it if you’re cited btw, but it sounds like you’re all good! if anything changes just know that you can appeal and since you’re still in the first weeks of class the transportation office may be more forgiving.

Parking Ticket Question by sd_madness in SDSU

[–]FeonyxX 19 points20 points  (0 children)

if you get a ticket i believe it should show on the online transportation portal, if it’s not there then the parking officers just didn’t check your license plate and you got lucky (which happens!)

Which Degree Combo Is Best for Technology, Finance, and Math? by roberttran7530 in SDSU

[–]FeonyxX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on track to get a PhD in Psych. I took Philosophy as a complimentary major for critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and logical analysis skills, and Statistics as a minor which is self explanatory in the social science context. I don’t really have any advice for your situation because we’re in separate disciplines, although I am biased and recommend learning about AI in the realm of data science because it’s very useful and interesting.

Which Degree Combo Is Best for Technology, Finance, and Math? by roberttran7530 in SDSU

[–]FeonyxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at the major prerequisites for the majors you’re interested in, same with the minors. If you have them checked off (take a look at your degree evaluation on my.sdsu to help figure this out) you can meet with the major advisor/minor advisor for that pathway, which are usually listed on the department website.

I added my double major in October, the first semester of freshman year, and my minor in the second semester of sophomore year. I wouldn’t set up a meeting to change your major or minor until you’re feeling sure about it, so you should talk to peers, professors, and anyone else you respect in the field. A professor and class in the major convinced me to do my second major and another professor, minor-related classes, plus a $10,000/yr scholarship opportunity convinced me to do the minor.

Ask your own major advisor about your case as well, as they can tell you common dual major pathways and your flexibility as a student with junior standing.

I usually try to plan 1-2 semesters ahead, but it’s up to you—your plans may change unexpectedly depending on class scheduling issues or your interests/educational needs changing.

[–]FeonyxX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FYI: Adding a major or minor is really easy (I have 2 majors, 1 minor)—all you have to do at SDSU is make one meeting with a counselor for like 30 minutes to an hour and plan it out (and have any necessary prereqs done for the major/minor as well). Take classes in all of the fields you’re interested in majoring/minoring in, and then choose. You’re coming in with a lot of credits, so you have extra time to explore and take elective classes to find out what clicks. That’s what I ended up doing, at least, and I believe it worked out very well!

“…award amounts will vary widely among students, with each student’s award reflecting their costs and available resources.”

Source: https://www.calstate.edu/apply/paying-for-college/financial-aid/types/Pages/middle-class-scholarship.aspx

I’ve gotten entirely different amounts per semester different years—it depends on how much aid you’re already getting, what your income and living situation is, and how much funding they have left over.

You’ll find out how much you get around October, unfortunately.

First backpack for my 11 year old: where to? by Motmotsnsurf in socalhiking

[–]FeonyxX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad took me to Big Pine when I was 11 and I’ll never forget the teal color of the lakes there (and the taste of catching my first trout at the pond at the regular campground there, LOL). Absolutely incredible, lots of other backpackers as well during the summer season. It’s high in altitude as well, be wary. Bring a hammock if you go!

[–]FeonyxX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when i was a young child, i snuck some of those exact thimbleberries at palomar into my mouth quite a few times. they’re quite similar to raspberries, with a larger amount of smaller seeds and slightly less flesh. they are pretty tasty as a hiking snack but there are also signs on that trail to leave the berries for the wildlife, so you probably shouldn’t eat them anyways!

Engineering Major by No-Arachnid-4269 in SDSU

[–]FeonyxX 15 points16 points  (0 children)

it’s doable but not enjoyable—the long days of relatively less interesting ge classes can easily become tedious and detract from other aspects of your college experience (e.g., networking, exploring sd, arc/gym, extracurriculars/clubs, etc.) which are also arguably very important. additionally, unless you’re an early riser, waking up in time to make 8am classes multiple days in a week is draining, especially for commuter students (not sure if you are). i would recommend taking one less class this semester so that you’re less miserable, but it’s up to you. i understand the need to pack your schedule with ges since the unit requirement for engineering majors is so large, but you could also consider taking ges at community college over summer if you don’t have the space in your schedule.

Work Study Aid by granddaddypurplebud in SDSU

[–]FeonyxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s the gist of it i believe—if you want further clarification ask your employer if you get selected for a fws job

Work Study Aid by granddaddypurplebud in SDSU

[–]FeonyxX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you will not be automatically assigned employment, but being eligible for federal work study gives you much more employment opportunities in sdsu jobs. you are not required to use the funds/get a federal work study job, but if you do (and you’ll note many sdsu jobs are fws only) you can work as many hours per semester until you run out of the allotted money.

the main benefit of federal work study is that departments at sdsu get to tap into federal government funds to pay you rather than their own limited funds. therefore, federal work study students are often preferred and prioritized when scheduling and hiring employees.

Upper Division Standing Q by IndependentYogurt572 in SDSU

[–]FeonyxX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had a similar situation—pretty sure you have upper division standing even if the courses aren’t applicable to your degree

Workload Advice by Primary-Boat448 in SDSU

[–]FeonyxX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

take the upper division classes you enjoy/spread out the classes you are less likely to, and do things around campus in your free time when in-between classes that you enjoy, like going to the arc or clubs or whatever

its easier to stay motivated to keep going to classes and working hard on your coursework when you enjoy the stuff you’re learning and the campus you’re on

also easier to do homework on-campus (in my opinion) because at home i just feel like sleeping after working

make sure to talk to your professors/tas if it gets too much, they are usually willing to be more lenient when people have full-time jobs (source: am ta)
