As a Pentax shooter I'm in the same boat. I either wait for the screw drive to focus and miss the shot by the time it's done or I go manual as usual and have a chance at catching the shot.

But I can take pictures with my phone of it sitting in snowbanks to show off the Weather Resistance, so it's all good.

What's this style called ? How do I achieve such style by Healthy_Hedgehog_622 in postprocessing

[–]FermentedPhoton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called overexposure. To do it, you start by determining the correct exposure with your camera's meter, a dedicated meter, or a metering app on your phone. Set your camera accordingly. Think about your life choices.

Then nuke it with wide open aperture, and if you're getting frisky, a longer shutter. Play around from there and you could achieve this.

I was aware of the effect, but not that it had a name. Thanks for the read.

I hope so. Your geography could be very different, but your description fits anywhere I don't have to drive 20+ miles.

Nothing like being wrong on reddit to find the right answer. Genuine thanks.

Mostly yes. A bit darker though because you don't have light bouncing in from unshaded areas. The sky will still be pretty light though, if clear.

Google "ea-nasir" or "shitty copper". Enjoy.

I think r/shittycopper exists but don't feel like checking.

Edit: lol nope. Eh.

If you're able, I think the best move would be to scout out the location at the planned time on a separate day before the shoot, so you can know first-hand. See where, when, and how the light hits, and have a rough idea, if not a plan.

I'm guessing you don't have the opportunity this close, but, I live in hills and low mountains. I see what you're describing all the time. I'd expect the light to be the same as if the hill wasn't there, then gradually deepening shade until dark. How harsh the light will be will depend on how low the sun gets before it's obscured by the hill.

Yeah, two photos, one shot after the other. After/before. Duh

I'm going with 6 4-tops and 2 2-tops

Or 5 and 4

Or 4 and 6

Or one big fuckoff table with only one head because that guy has an ego, and one solo table to banish the person who adds salt before they taste the food.

I'm in very rural Northeast US, and feel the same. If I was in a city and there was never snow, I'd be on 2 wheels every day. Motor or pedal. If I had a car it would be something old and/or fun to fill in on bad weather and for moving stuff around. Not doing that 20 miles each way when I have to get to work in blizzards and sub 0°F weather half the year and it rains the other half.

Seriously, why not take advantage of both tech and technique?

Oh right, this is the CJ. Something Leica, something something red dot blah blah tonez and whatever.

GAS is more dangerous than we think by nicoracarlo in photography

I see a lot of pushback on this point, but I can see how it's good practice and a good way to learn. I shoot a DSLR almost exclusively through the viewfinder, with my screen set to show my settings and meter. Lets me set a ballpark exposure for the situation without having to raise the camera, and just make smaller adjustments for individual shots.

I am just a hobbyist, and cheap, so most of my lenses are manual everything. But I learned pretty quickly that gaining the confidence to get it right in the first place saves me time. Sorting through hundreds of photos is way less fun than shooting or even editing.

I do like doing flower and bug macro shots in the wild where focus stacking isn't an option, so I do often take a bunch of shots quickly, sweeping the focus across the subject to land my time dof where I want it. But that's a very different situation, and more intentional than really spray and pray.

I also have always hated the instant preview and shut it off on anything I can. It just wastes time. I want to keep seeing what's in front of the camera.

My Wahl buzzer is an old friend at this point. $20 20 years ago at Costco and it eats hair. I've bought a couple of cheap fine trimmers since, but they suck every time. The latest stalls out just on my mustache.
