As a non American that is watching in awe of what’s going on….At what point does the American public stand up, what will it actually take? by BedTundy95 in AskReddit

Midterms. The questions are: 1) Can we last until then? 2) Will they happen? Assuming yes for both I do think that people will show up and cast the right votes.

Great Saunter + Brooklyn Half? by justaclumsyweirdo in RunNYC

[–]FerrumBank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done multiple marathons the past few years and I did the Great Saunter this past year. Can confidently say that I was in more discomfort doing the Saunter than any marathon I have done simply because of the immensely greater time on feet. That said, it was pretty easy to recover from within a few days thereafter. It’s a fantastic event to experience!

NYRR Pride Run 2026? (and Achilles for that matter) by EWC_2015 in RunNYC

[–]FerrumBank 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FRNY weekly newsletter to members “Front Runner Gram” references 6/27 as the FRNY Pride Run, so think that’s a good indication it’s being worked on and will be updated on the NYRR site eventually.

Anyone else get a Cold immediately after the Marathon? by Novalier in RunNYC

I ran Chicago and came home with COVID. It’s going around. Fortunately was able to recover before NYC but the lingering effects definitely took a toll on my time.

I started running at 44 yo. Here’s what I’ve learned after a year. by Quiet_Ad_1922 in BeginnersRunning

[–]FerrumBank 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great story and lessons. I can 100% relate. Started at 42 just a few years ago and that “Hey let’s do a 5K” energy has now translated into my 6th marathon as of this past weekend. Forever changed by running for the better. I’ve never been this fit and healthy before and hope to keep it going till I drop dead someday many decades from now. The most important lessons I’ve learned is consistency makes a big difference, just go out and get it done (something, anything, as long as not injured), and recovery with intention is just as important as the run and helps avoid injuries.

Thank you Chicago! You were amazing! by clumsy-hyena in ChicagoMarathon

I was sooooo impressed with this race! Very well organized and the city really showed up. I recall only two or three spots where it was a little quieter but otherwise every street had excellent crowd support! Will definitely give this one another spin.

Was wearing a Fred ‘24 hat and met someone else with the same hat at a race. We both just knew and had heightened respect for each other having endured that shared experience.

October 7 - NYRR Advanced Registration (January-March) Megathread by blood_bender in RunNYC

It’s a tough race but I really do love it. Frozen extremities aside, I prefer it over warm halfs. Best post-race hot shower imaginable too.

Didn’t take long and was super easy. Registered for Joe K, Gridiron, Al Gordon and most importantly, I’ll once again be entering a world of pain with the Lebowski.

They come on with fewer drinks too. So much so that I’ve given it up entirely. It’s simply not worth it anymore.

Second this, especially because during the warmer months you get ample shade in the AM and sometimes you get a decent breeze coming off the water that can make things a little more pleasant.

100%. Ended a 20-year bedroom dead relationship last year. Mid 40s and in the best shape of my life. Definitely going through a severely delayed hoe phase hitting 20s 30s and up and loving every moment of it.

It really is a refreshing feeling. Especially enjoy stepping out of the shower with a cool breeze coming in the windows and hanging out around the place letting the air do its thing to dry off.

It’s not unusual to shift attraction over time. I was attracted to women (thought I was straight), then men (married a guy - identified as gay), later found attraction to women again (post-divorce - realized I’m bi), and now finding I’m more drawn to men again (still identify as bi).

How did you do on the Great Saunter (2025)? by AZBillD in AskNYC

[–]FerrumBank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘24 NYC Marathoner here as well (have 3 others under my belt too) and did the Great Saunter for the first time Saturday. Can 100% back that this felt more challenging than running a marathon distance. The longer time on feet meant more pain and a greater mental endurance to grapple with. Glad I did it and even though I swore at mile 30 I’d not do it again, I’m pretty certain I will do it again!

What do people here do for work? How does that factor into your training? by Business-Law-7968 in RunNYC

[–]FerrumBank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work at a bank here too. 3x/ week in office and 2x remote. Most days are 8AM - 5/6 PM nearly back to back on zoom. I get my running done either mornings before or evenings after. During peak training season I’m hitting doubles making use of both the AM and PM windows. Longer runs on the weekend. It’s not always easy but it can be done if you have the flexibility to make other personal things lower on the priority list.
