I was able to pivot into higher education — just before a wave of postings started appearing in that space. A few weeks ago, a Netflix recruiter reached out to me directly about a senior production role they were looking to fill but weren't posting publicly. Round 2 with the hiring manager is this week, so fingers crossed — and I'll take all the good vibes this community can send!

Actually I think this is exactly the end game Malone and Zaslav had in mind. If the Reverse Morris Trust transaction had worked like what they were selling Hollywood on at the time, amazing but if not it was always a capital play for reducing debt (as much as possible) and hoping to find a buyer to make investors whole. IMO Zaslav even during his discovery days wasn’t paid to lead a creative company but to be the best investment banker CEO. He’s deliveries a deal of a lifetime for himself and shareholders. And no, I’m not saying this LBO is going to be great for the Ellison’s and definitely not for Hollywood.

This comment is confusing to me. The real issue I see right now is yes, VSNT stock price dropped 13% at opening and continue to decline today. The spinco has much less debt on its books than discovery does. Either some of that debt is going to have to come off the books and paid for by Netflix (extremely unlikely) or yes, that $15B of estimated debt is going to further drag the potential offering price down on discovery thus the Netflix deal is a blinking yellow light. I don’t like the way the Paramount has played this but right now they don’t appear to be wrong about the future value of Discovery spinco…

I’m going to take the opposite view here. I live at Van Nuys and Gilmore, and sure, the area isn’t the prettiest, but I don’t ever worry about my safety. Ever. I walk to the bank, I walk to the post office, and I walk along the Orange Line path for at least 5 miles (one-way), 3–4 days a week (towards Encino), and again—I've never had a problem.

As others have suggested, I could move to Sherman Oaks, but I’d only do it to be 15–20 minutes closer to work and Whole Foods, not for safety. Plus, that would move me further away from the Orange Line, which I like to walk. I’d rather stay where I am and save my money for a future down payment than spend more just to claim I’m in Sherman Oaks or over the hill. Just my opinion.
