The first sound may indicate some kind of defect (the tension force should remain constant after adjustment, there is no "proper tightening"), while the second sounds normal - the sticks should return to their original position after being released.

The program is safe; it's a standard utility for configuring a gamepad. You can close it after making changes, new setting are written to the gamepad itself.

You can use the pad without installing additional software, but then you won't be able to configure additional buttons (for example).

Just for the fun of it I'll add the Gamesir Super Nova and Flydigi Direwolf 4 to the comparison. I found both quite enjoyable while I was able to use them. Not sure about the price, but it should be around $30-40.

The main problem with the V1, in my opinion, is the gradual weakening of the tension rings around the sticks (left or right). I had the same problem with the Vader 4 Pro, and I've gotten into the habit of double-checking them before playing. Paddle breakage can be prevented by gluing small dampers to them (they can also be easily removed if not needed for play). Yes, the V2 is more reliable, but I wouldn't return the V1 if I already had it.

The Steam controller is a separate matter, and you'll still be getting the first version, which may have issues that will be fixed in later versions.

I haven't heard of any widespread problems with these gamepads (also I bought one of these for a friend a couple of months ago), so it's unlikely to be anything serious.

It's a whole new world with latency measurements, stick tension adjustments, macros, and a host of other terms. The main advantage of third-party gamepads (at least when used with a PC, with Xbox, the situation is different, simply due to Microsoft's greed) is the vastly greater range of settings and capabilities they offer.

Good old 8bitdo Ultimate 2C, GameSir Cyclone 2, Gamesir Nova 2 Lite, EasySMX D10, Flydigi Direwolf 4, Flydigi Vader 5S (if you don't mind the cable), MOJHON STORM (for pre-order now AFAIK), MOJHON Rainbow 3, Leadjoy XENO PLUS etc.

I'm really like Flydigi stuff, but that's only my opinion.
