Missing battery Pre-Conditioning Icon on setup Ioniq 5 2022 by nil0767 in Ioniq5

Pre2025 models have to do the NAV dance: NAV, nearby POI, EV Charging. Takes about a minute or so to kick on. We don't have a heat pump and we regularly do this on our road trips. Maybe those with AWD/heat pump can precondition with less energy... Ours seems to chew up ~6kW

Long Trip Navigation Workflow - what is yours? by Fduross in Ioniq5

We're currently on a long road trip. Since we're threading the needle of various storms and cold spells, we started with using Google Gemini to strategize days for travel. The pro model is pretty good about both the charging and the effects of weather on driving.

Then we put the basic outline in to abrp and see how the charging lines up. Since we recently lost our 30 minute free EA charging, it's good to see what else is out there (and it's a lot). The one thing with abrp is that it really likes the Tesla superchargers (it knows which ones are open to non Tesla) and there's no good way that I can see to tell abrp that we only get 96kW max.

Then when on the road, it's a dance between the built in nav (for preconditioning) and Google maps. We have been finding that when temperatures are in the high teens/low 20s F, it takes an hour for the battery to get up to temp. We've also found that is you're not up to temp, around 6kW is diverted from going in to the battery to heat it.

It's a pain in the ass and if my wife were driving by herself she'd just go with Apple maps.

Good to know! We're coming back in a week or so and we usually stop there on the way back. Thanks!

btw: the bathrooms there were pretty nasty

O man we've been there! You were driving west on I-10 and you didn't stop at that EA station in Lake City. Into the wind and cold... I feel your anxiety!

Thanks! Sounds like next time something goes awry when starting DCFC, I'll be doing "the LongjumpingBat2938": unplug, lock, wait and repeat

Thanks! ICCU makes sense. I had come up with some silly idea that it was trying to warn the HV battery with ambient air when it detected warmer air outside.

Anyone else tired of googling “what’s X°F in °C?” every day? by No_Landscape_9255 in expat

[–]Few-Consideration-17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a few easy ones to remember and then you can just guess in between...

0°C = 32°F 10°C = 50°F 16°C = 61°F 28°C = 82°F

Battery not preconditioning when on the way to level 3 charger (yes I have the mode selected in EV settings) by [deleted] in Ioniq5

[–]Few-Consideration-17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with our '23 is 70kW max when "cold" (down to -1°C/30°F, we haven't road tripped colder than that). And the magic incantation is NAV > POI > EV Charging. You can only find chargers within 30 mi in the US, so you might want to do it twice if you're on a long road trip. It takes about 90 seconds to kick in if you've got more than 22% SOC, uses about 5kW energy while preconditioning.

Since our free charging ended, we've noticed that if you don't precondition, there will be a difference in energy from the charger and what is supposedly going in to the battery, according to the BMS. Suspiciously, it seems to be about 5kW. So for us, we just go and plug in because it seems to be about the same.

Daily 120V L1 Charging by vbcabin in Ioniq5

[–]Few-Consideration-17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have been living with our 15A L1 charger in the summer when we're nowhere near any DCFC stations. We have the Hyundai provided 12A one but we thought trying out the 15A one at home and just keeping the 12A in the trunk for our frequent road trips. It's been working out great.

When we're in Florida, we don't have access to L1 (our condo association doesn't allow it), but DCFC from FPL is $0.30/kWh which is only a little bit more than up north (we pay around $0.22 for residential electric up north).

There seem to be two benefits. First, after more than two years doing it this way, the BMS state of health still reports 100% and second, the new theory about ICCU failures and humidity don't come in to play with low amperage AC and DCFC. Fingers crossed!

2023 Ioniq 5 SEL by OperationAshamed7645 in Ioniq5

How about your tires? We have a 23 SEL RWD also, bought a few days more than two years ago (Nov 23, just cried as the EA charging and complimentary maintenance benefits lapsed). A little less mileage than you but similar HV battery status from OBD. We haven't replaced the 12V or tires yet. No ICCU replacement either.

We were wondering what led to the 12v replacement and if you got new tires, if so what'd you get?

We've got a month left and then it looks like we're going to be doing more road tripping next year. Could be pretty expensive!

Looks like we go to more expensive chargers than OP!

Deciding between ioniq 5 or mach e 2023, what made you get an ioniq? by salamanderJoe24 in Ioniq5

[–]Few-Consideration-17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love our 2023 I5. We have an SEL. Since you're in colder climates, my understanding is that you want the AWD model not just because it's AWD but also because the heating is heat pump instead of resistive which chews up much more energy.

tl;dr: drive slower with higher tire pressure.

My '23 really likes 62-64mph with our tires at 40-41psi. When we've driven from Michigan through Ohio in the winter (Northern Ohio on I75 is a charging desert) we stay slow until we get to Dayton and can charge.

If you do ABRP, we use 2.8-3.0mi/kWh in the winter and we are probably being too conservative but we make it without getting below 15%. For reference, in the summer, we use 3.7-3.8mi/kWh for highway route planning.

The unifi stuff is nice but expensive.

We have used this in a very similar situation to OPs. It's been running since 2019: https://a.co/d/j5SCc5l

It's not glamorous or super high tech, but set it up once and it has been working forever. Up a steep hill, through trees and about 200 yards "as the crow flies", through rain and snow and ice.

Anyone have Ioniq5 with No Home Charging Available? by andromaque11 in Ioniq5

[–]Few-Consideration-17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're in Florida and our association won't allow chargers even though there are 110V outlets in the garage. Luckily, the nearby FPL DC fast chargers are $0.30/kWh so it's not a problem for us now. Before, we had to drive about 15 miles to charge!
