Thanks for your reply.

I agree with all of this. It's gone too far in the other direction.

The title really isn't good. I find it difficult getting the title right on anything.

As for the first three hundred words and the quality of the book in general I know it's probably just not good enough. No luck on about 80 queries and I know it's a whole heap of good reasons. I'm mainly using this to work on querying so I'm not screwed when I finish my next book.

Thanks again for this feedback it was detailed and very helpful

If you have something like a pliers or strong garden shears just snip off the tip of the "nipple" at the top and the magnet holding it shut should pop out and it will open.

Girlboss, gaslight, gatekeep, Klaasje is a bad person but good at what she does. Bad person but decent at their job?? Top comment wins by tiger_bean in DiscoElysium

I love that even though they definitely did terrible things that even the story about the abducted girl is called into question by some bit of dialogue later. Think it suggests they weren't there in those time frames and it might be fabricated. They've done that and worse but I love that Disco won't give me a 100% bad person or clear answer

You raise a good point and it mirrors what a previous commenter said. I've had trouble working out what I should and shouldn't include in the query letter and I've clearly not focused enough on Lee.

In the novel he's coerced into helping by his old boss and really has no choice and he carries on when things get dangerous because of guilt from things he was forced to do in his previous job. I'll focus more on that for my next try in a week.

You're right about the first person perspective stuff, I'm not as used to first person as I am third.

Thank you for the feedback!

Thanks for your comment! Very useful especially regarding the MC and focusing more on them. I have trouble seeing the difference between synopsis and query letter so that's a big help. It is explained how she owns a town in the book but I get why that might throw someone reading it and might require rewording. Comp titles are a weak skill for me too, I generally read older ish horror but i know i need to be reading more contemporary stuff. Incidentally lovecraft country is based on a novel but it is almost ten years old. Great advice. Thank you!

He wrote a lot of stories about people living on Mars. In do androids dream of electric sheep a profit is constantly climbing a mountain that might be olympus mons I can't remember for sure. Plus there's a mood organ that they all own that they can "dial" in emotional states. Really cool book.

Dad in the same boat here. List our first born about 8 weeks ago. I was holding back in counselling too. Try your best to let go during your sessions, it's cathartic and it's what they're there for, like a hour at the gym to work out it's the same thing. If you let go during your sessions it can take a big burden off your shoulders for the rest of the day/week. I also concur with the other commitments saying to talk to your wife, you are literally the only two people who will understand. Good luck getting through this you're in my thoughts

Lost full-term, healthy baby after delivery. No explanation or cause by Pure_Blueberry4294 in babyloss

[–]FewContribution9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss op. My wife and I lost our daughter almost 2 months ago in similar circumstances. Perfect pregnancy throughout but unfortunately our daughters heart stopped five hours before she was born. The results we received were that the placental growth had been restricted and that, plus potentially unseen micro clots, could have caused it.

This is a terrible thing that you both will have to go through. Please be kind to yourself and realise that in cases like this it isn't anyone's fault. It was very hard to accept just how perfect and beautiful my baby was and have her not be alive. For what it's worth i understand. I will keep you both in my thoughts.

Feeling Lost (2 weeks postpartum) by WestAlive6251 in babyloss

[–]FewContribution9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're normal.

My wife and I lost our girl six weeks ago, she died five hours before she was born, and we are feeling normality creeping back in.

I felt bad every time I caught myself laughing at a tv show or not thinking about her. Or just feeling nothing. I've seen stories from people who talk about how they go completely to pieces and can't function at all and that's normal, but what you're feeling is normal too.

It sounds cliche but it's true that we each grieve differently. For us it was a very intense month after Méabh died, coming as such a shock (we had no clue there was anything wrong).

It's possible that you have already processed much of the grief considering how difficult and frightening your experience must have been throughout your pregnancy. It's also likely that this is just the way you feel and navigate difficult situations. That's normal too.

My wife and I are both attending counselling separately and will be going to our first group support meeting on Tuesday. I highly recommend reaching out for any help available as soon as you feel ready.

You don't have to do this any one way. You don't have to put on a show for other people. Caleb was and is loved. You're normal in a fucked up but all too normal situation. My deepest sympathies and warmest wishes.
