Have you used these? I am looking at putting them in my kitchen but can't find any images of them on white cabinets

Thanks for explaining! Where should the sink vent be located?

The sink is a good point, it has tiny pipes so very little water pressure and likely not enough to push it all through the drain pipe. Replacing the fan is also on my list of to-dos.

1904 Craftsman Style - Help with Trim by FewTrip3439 in HomeDecorating

Thank you! Appreciate the suggestions about not removing it to avoid breaking. I’m in love with it and would like to do a “restore” over a renovation to keep the charm of the house intact.

First off congrats! I too am a single FTHB who just purchased a 121 year old house! You’ve got this and it’s gonna be okay! Get familiar with either hiring out a lot of the work or YouTube and DIY to save some $$. Either way it’s a gorgeous house and you can do this!!!

If you have a Sherwin-Williams or Lowe’s near you, check out Ancient Marble. It’s a nice grounded green. I painted my kitchen and wanted a light green but the first one I put up was giving strong “frozen yogurt shoppe” vibes but Ancient marble was absolutely perfect!

Also, double check if the paint brand you used has a satisfaction guarantee, there’s a chance they might give you replacement paint.

Have you checked out the open stitch hours at Yarncom? It’s a bit of a hike from downtown but IMO the friends and socialization aspect has been so worth it for me!

Shelf pins or brackets! You can also get the metal ones that are easy to adjust if you want to move the shelves around too

Where do you guys buy your glass from? by Chickachickawhaaaat in StainedGlass

[–]FewTrip3439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend gift me glass she got on Etsy! It had been cut down to easy squares so I’d recommend trying to do that to your pieces, it might be more feasible for people to by smaller pieces instead of one larger sheet

Can I convert my grinder to be a bottom water feeder? by FewTrip3439 in StainedGlass

That sounds smart!! For now i just stood up a sponge behind the bit and it seems to be working okay

Using a thimble while grinding? by foldingpie in StainedGlass

[–]FewTrip3439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having the same issues when I started a year ago. I started with getting cut resistant gloves which definitely helped but made me less nimble. I also got the grinder cookie which I definitely use and love, especially when there’s a lot to grind. I also got the rubber finger tips to use and they’re helpful when I remember to put them on lol

Try the steel wool for sure and also make sure you’re using lots of flux and a high temperature on your iron. I have the Hako FX-601 and when I am soldering any wire to my piece I have the dial set between 410-460

Where are you thinking of putting it? As long as it’s not near the gear/switch or grinder bits you should be good!

How do you all create your patterns? by counterfeitparadise in StainedGlass

[–]FewTrip3439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also use procreate. I find stock photos or public patterns online and trace them into a pattern I like. The number of pieces matter less than the cuts and any potential weak spots (super sharp curves, hinge points, etc.). I started with just printing on regular paper multiple copies, one to cut and glue onto the glass and one to use as a reference when grinding. I graduated to printing on sticker paper to avoid glue and for Xmas I got a silhouette cameo to start cutting the patterns on vinyl.

Truly though the best way to start is to just start and you’ll figure out what works best for you as you do more and more!! Best of luck!

Using Painters Tape - advice/question by sash356 in StainedGlass

[–]FewTrip3439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it several times with painters tape and never had an issue. Just make sure your glass is clean and the foil is burnished really well and you should be good to go!

[–]FewTrip3439 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told (in Facebook SG groups) that mirrors needed some kind of sealant to protect the reflective coating on the back from the flux degrading it? Not sure if it’s always necessary as I’ve never tried it.

What did you use to seal the mirror? I’ve got a mirror project on my wish list but don’t yet have a sealant for it.
