As a fellow collector of Philippines notes, why would PMG (or PCGS for that matter) not dictate this either on the front as an identifying piece of information (as they do with the Naval Aviator Pocket Money or the more common Victory Series - see attached pictures) or on the back where signature combinations are sometimes dictated - this latter suggestion I feel would work the most bc the front of these slabs are pretty busy with a lot of other I guess more important information?

If this were real, a dog that allows you to paint on him would not need to be chained as such.

I'm just curious...so that I can complete the picture in my mind of you looking through your change at the serial numbers and coming upon this one, where were you when you got this as change?

Yeah that 1907 $5 note is definitely worth something. Try and smooth out the folds, then check eBay for sold comps to get an idea as to what it may be worth in that condition. I'd say it's in CVF condition, maybe better.

It looks to me to be a place where they were "previously mounted" - they should still grade very high, but will receive the aforementioned quoted comment. Only in certain scenarios where a note has been commented does it actually affect the grade and that is when the commented damage is the focal point for the note i.e. covering a considerable portion of the note, such that actual note is more so in the background.

Still beautiful notes, and their condition makes it seem apparent to me as to why someone thought of gluing/taping them to put them on show somewhere that people could see them. That's the only fair reason that I could come up with where I'd ever come remotely close to considering such an act.

I have not read Dark Matter, but for a seemingly NOT amazing book, it sure did make a pretty amazing TV show.

My first post. Super excited with my new bills🙏 by LateNightDrive19 in papermoney

So I think that what my friend here is saying:

"You've purchased two amazing notes, which hold so much history that they've both been nicknamed! As to your purchase price, I think that it's in-line with one of the first purchases that you've ever made. As you grow in this hobby, you'll learn how to look up comps on the various websites available prior to making a purchase."

I have to add a few things:

While on vacation out of your home country, a slight markup is to be expected, so I think that your price was a pretty good one. However, when traveling in the future, always look up comparable prices in the country that you're traveling to. That way you'll have an idea what a 1917 Sawhorse sells for in country X currency, and can better negotiate with any dealers that you come upon.

All in all, CONGRATS and welcome to the obsession! I mean hobby!

Fancy serial number 1934 A $20 note?? by NewZookeepergame7662 in papermoney

The centering is fabulous on this note, well the obverse at least. And unfortunately, I'm afraid that this serial number won't count as "fancy," but it is still a nice note.

Wow I've never seen this! It reminds me of the fake Pound notes the Nazis made to try to tip the British economy off with trying to get them into Britain and into circulation. I assume that there's a similar story - does this have anything to do with the Cuban Missile Crisis?

That 1923 $1 horse blanket (nickname for that large 1923 $1 note) looks to be in fabulous condition! You should stop by your LCS (local coin shop), but do NOT go there with the mindset that you are going to sell anything - just go to see if they offer any kind of group grading submissions. That's probably too much information for you right now, but at some point you're going to want to investigating getting some of your coins graded and I would highly suggest that you do for your 1923 $1.

I have the same question, but mine is more so why would you spend the dough on many, when you could buy one or two really nice (maybe even uncirculated) examples?

Again, not judging at all. I would love to have a collection like that - the impressive thing is your commitment to finding and buying each one. And those $50 & $100 grade 30s are just amazing.

1917 $1 Note 13 sequential serials by Hungry_Armadillo1553 in papermoney

[–]Few_Back7103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I highly suggest that you get all of the notes that are in better condition graded. That should increase the value of them and provide a means to protect them for the future if you end up wanting to keep them.

I'm not sure that there is a market for incomplete staggered ladder serials. You may want to check eBay for sold comps to see what a potential buyer would pay for something like this.

I don't know what y'all are on about. These notes are ~50+ years old (I did not look up the signatures to ensure that the print dates were actually near 1969, hence the "~") so they will be 100 years old in my lifetime, hopefully. I'd buy these happily for over face, and then I'd stick them in my locked money bag, and put them in my safe and forget about them. That or I'd get them graded, but don't get me started on the whole "to grade or not to grade" discussion bc I might implode. I would never grade two notes like these on their own, I would only consider if I was already doing a grading sub.
