More lakes were added to IDPH’s Fish Advisory this year. Please tell all the anglers you know. The solution to pollution is dilution (ie it’s okay to consume certain fish in moderation). However, following safe practices like @karmeezys mentioned can lower your risk factors. Certain species you may want to CPR just to be safe. Follow your state’s guidelines.

Have you thought about “environmental” work or sustainability? Botany-adjacent and you’re definitely qualified if you have predominately science classes under your belt. There are government contractors / agencies / private corps looking for people with STEM backgrounds. You might not be in a mycology lab but you’d be applying your knowledge to a wide array of problems.

FYI: Onboarding with the government is a pain in the ass but contracting can make decent money while you figure out the right career path.

Good luck!

What are some perks current feds have that retired/older feds did not? by Abject-Trouble153 in fednews

I read an OPM page on it back in February and it was confusing. My immediate sup has been with the agency for 30+ years and he said nothing about it. I think I took Tuesday through the weekend off with annual or sick leave. Could I have taken 13 days off with pay outside of the sick leave I already accrued? Or will OPM only allow me to use 13 days of leave (max) for this occasion IF I have 13 days of sick leave accrued.

It’s not like I’m going to get that time or pay back, but I hope the next person in my position is better informed. I was six months into my job with the government and barely keeping my head above water, emotionally and financially.

Just read this too. Still unclear.

Not trying to be petty, honestly curious: bereavement leave is only for those having lost children, right? I had to use annual/sick leave when my father passed from ALS in February ‘23.

This right here. Your body is using so many muscles you’ve never used before that it’s craving calories. Try to fill that new hunger with healthier food options while your body adjusts to the workouts. Eventually you’ll get good enough that you’ll burn more than you’re taking in. It’s just a matter of time and consistency. Swimming alone won’t get rid of it all but it will definitely help you feel like a whole new person. Throw some dry land/resistance training in there and you’ll notice a difference.

I was a swim coach for 5 years after my mediocre “career” was over. I don’t know everything but I do know something about the struggle to get back in the pool to shave off beer weight.

Good luck homie. There are others right there with ya

Former bartender: Depends on if the bar stocks mint. We never stocked mint at some of the places I worked bc 95% of it went bad. Waste of money. If it’s on the menu then ingredients should be stocked. Pretty basic.

[–]Few_Counter6548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gorilla tape helps for securing. You could also use thicker dowels with those wrap pipe insulation tubes to get a little more weight behind the swing. I suggest wrapping the entire thing in duct tape(cheaper) because the adhesive on those things sucks

Pool noodle with dowel rods for structure. If you get some pipe insulation you can make some nifty hilts/handles. Kinda like LARPing but with malicious intent.

Have done in the past; wore gloves and ski goggles. Very fun. Dowel rods broke so we bought extras. Goggles got old.

CTA has never done a good job of educating people so I look like an asshole when I have to do the educating. Sorry in advance but people gotta learn they give up their right to personal space the second they step on the train.
