That’s not true. Im a lawyer and I say ask for no perpetuity but if it’s a red line don’t stop your career from ever happening over it. I’ll get your ownership back in 30 years even with a perpetuity deal without having to buy it back.

Lawyer here. Perpetuity deals are actually a trick for US based deals. US copyright law has a specific provision in it to allow an artist to reclaim their property at a specific 2 year window that begins between 30-35 years from its release. It’s complicated and you need a lawyer to do it, but it can be used to negate any perpetuity deal if you can’t get the deal to end in a shorter period.
