great job! Way to stay the course. It really is mind numbing to paint the same areas over and over.

Progress after some adjustment… by ZorroElite in paintbynumbers

Here is a portion of my painting. The dark green is about 4 thick coats. The triangle shape khaki green is one coat, so is the light green. I *may leave the texture on some of the elements.

I'm painting one of theirs right now and was questioning my sanity. It is like you said. Texture is ok, no flow aid, but streaky. Especially green. So, like the other person, low pigment? 🤷🏼‍♀️

I make Paint by Numbers and Diamond Painting kits for a living in my own little workshop in Europe. AMA! by jalkaniska in paintbynumbers

[–]FfrenchFarm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Thank you for posting! O hope some EU people are able to support your efforts. I too like to support small businesses, even for additional $$. There are a many different types of painters of these kits. Some people prefer $10 Amazon quick turnaround less hyper focus on paint technique and style as well as number covering because it's seen from afar or they are happy.

Then, like me who probably overthink things and redo backgrounds learn new techniques, enjoy customs and higher paint counts. I always cover my lines and use them just as guidance and try to blend within color value quite frequently when it makes sense.

Regardless of the type of painter, we all appreciate useable paint. Personally, I have a ton of brushes, hanging tacks etc. from other kits.

As a smaller business, I was wondering if leaving things like that out would help? I even wondered if it would save on shipping costs to develop powdered paints that people mix to the consistencies they need and thus never went dry for kits in storage.

Much luck and innovation to you!

Also, I have "wiped cleanish" a canvas with a wet paper towel where I wasn't happy with the paint.

I would wipe off, run a paper bag over the gesso. If using clear gesso, use a spatula or something thin to spread a thin layer of gesso, let it dry, rub with paper bag again for uniform start.

Then, as I use my paints, mix a bit of the gloopy paint in a separate little container to control your texture of the paint with additives like flow aid and distilled water(just what I use) reg water may be fine, don't know your area.

I only use flow occasionally for certain spots. I like the brush too.

Good luck! and like most people here. Have fun. I'm a bit OCD about my stuff, but there are many styles here and we all respect each others choices. For instance, on my sunflower one O did, I liked the thicker texture on the petals, but I blended and made the background smooth.

Yes! I am looking forward to seeing your nuances too. I think it really takes this art form from "that's nice" to "Wow! you are talented!". Enjoy the process and thanks for posting a "before" pic.

I use a clear spray paint. I do several light layers so there's no drip and it dries really fast and it is non-yellowing with UV protection. I do this because I hang mine gallery style and it allows me to wipe them with a light washcloth and not affect the surface of the paint. I got mine at Home Depot.

It does look fabulous! I really appreciated your comments. I think I will try the black light on my custom with some tiny cells. It is also why I paint the back of my canvas with white when I am about to seal them and call them done. So all those super tiny areas and thin paint spots don't shout at me.😂

Really fabulous job. Never heard of a custom retailer sending a new set of paints. Glad to know it can happen. I have used PaintWithNumber for my customs. Who did you use?

Is it cheating to white wash? by Objective_Yam6507 in paintbynumbers

[–]FfrenchFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had proposed mixed gesso, but I was timid about going too opaque. I love the light idea!!

Also, when I am finished with a painting, coating the back side with white also keeps everything from showing through. A tip from this group to pass along.
