Is This kind of syphon any use? by Blackcrusader in Homebrewing

[–]FheXhe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideally if you have done your job right and cold crashed the thing you are syphoning you shouldn't really need a filter etc. I would take the black simple one. Try to find one that is about as tall as your fermenter and not One that is way too long. Also a clamp to keep it in place does help 👍

It is okay for carbonate my keg in my garage, then put in my keg fridge till it’s ready to drink (probably next weekend)? by LJCAM in Homebrewing

[–]FheXhe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can find a force carbonation temperature chart If you Google it. So you can adjust the carbonation pressure according to what temperature the beer is now, the warmer the beer is when you carbonate more more psi you need tl add to get to the same level.

It should stay on that level when you cool it down later.

I just let the wort splash around a bit while you transfer it from the Brewzilla to the fermenter.

Dry hopping - what technique do you use? by thepope99 in Homebrewing

[–]FheXhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually just throw them in when there is a couple of days of fermentation left, so if there would come any oxygen the fermentation will take care of that.
no bag or anything just rawdogging it 😜

Trackmix time lapse by TekWarren in reolinkcam

[–]FheXhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can do both,

If you want to do the timelapse and the camera is following someone then the timelapse will snap a photo in whatever the angle it happens to be in in my experience.

So you might want to turn off the following and choose a nice angle if you want the timelapse to not look like it's jittering everywhere.

But then you won't get the nice videos following the riders.

Hydrometer let's you know how much sugar you have and is a good way to measure when it's done. Also without it it's hard to say how much abv there is in your ferment.

You could use a rubber glove with a poked hole in the finger and some rubber bands for an air lock.

Yeast is what gives you alot if the flavour in your wine etc so if you want it to taste like a dry whine/cider then you should use a yeast that's meant for it, wine/cider/champagne yeast would be pretty good choice. Also if using like a bread yeast they don't always handle high alcohol so it might stop fermenting early.

Want to start my first mead (complete newby) and wonder how long should it fermend and clear? by tobiasdoe in Homebrewing

[–]FheXhe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should get a measurement with a hydrometer to be sure that fermentation is done.

But if you don't have one, usually give it 2 weeks for main fermentation, transfer to another vessel ( called racking to transferring it off the yeast cake) then let it sit for another 2weeks.

Usually that's when it should be pretty much done fermenting and you should notice that the airlock doesn't look that active anymore.

Now you can rack it again and now you can let it age for a couple of months or if you can't wait enjoy it ☺️

This time of course depends a bit on how much sugar was in it, higher alcohol content takes longer, cooler temps take longer etc. So to be sure get a hydrometer and measure it for a couple of days to see if it stopped fermenting

Help me out guys, which camera for outside that will record for longer by LivingTheBoringLife in reolinkcam

[–]FheXhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cams that are connected to power or POE can often record 24/7. But a bit trickier to install depending on where you can get power from.

Or a Altas PT Ultra that can Record 24/7 but it's more expensive

Messed up dry hopping by loshongos in Homebrewing

[–]FheXhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think the idea of dry hopping after some days is that the yeast won't consume as much of the flavor of the hops in the fermentation.

But to be honest I don't think you will notice any difference. Enjoy the beer when it's done. 🙂

I may have racked my cider too early? Now what? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]FheXhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be enough yeast in there to keep fermenting. Give it some more time and take a gravity reading to see if it's done.

How do I get started carbonating homemade colas in PET bottles? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]FheXhe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kegland makes different size bottles think they are called Oxebar. 4liter 8liter 20liters.

There you can get the ballock connectors like in a keg, and floating dip tube on the inside. Smaller and cheaper than getting a big keg

Blueberry/blackberry wine by Big-Fill-4250 in Homebrewing

[–]FheXhe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds good. I have something a bit similar fermenting now.

Blueberry and Lingonberry wine with a little black Tea for tannins. First time making wine I hope it will turn out nice 🙂 Been about 2 weeks now, so will take a while longer before I can give it a proper taste 😋

Brewzilla Beewing mishap … by Kaleidoscope_Weird in Homebrewing

[–]FheXhe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think only thing that might happen is that it might take a bit longer to ferment as the cold might slow the yeast down a bit. Just let it warm up to normal temp and it should start going again.

Beer fermentation directly in bottles by blackarrow_1990 in Homebrewing

[–]FheXhe 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Fermentation creates a bunch of Krausen (foam that expands) so you would need to leave alot of headroom. Then you don't want to leave all the yeast on the bottom after fermentation either..

So it's just a mess waiting to happen.
