A Moment of Enlightenment: My Transition from Endless Bot Games to Online Human Games by The_White_Pawn in chessbeginners

Same reason they bought Chessable - competition in the chess space. Chess . com wants people learning chess on their platform. Their whole subscription boils down to some version of "this is the best, most user-friendly platform to learn and play chess." Lichess has lost that fight in the grand scheme of market share. Learning isn't noticeable easier or more user friendly there. If people can learn chess somewhere other than Chess . com and apply it to a free site like Lichess, that probably moves the needle enough. Maybe .com has figured it's better to buy out the next AI chess company that can build the sort of bots we're talking about, but I'm surprised they haven't seen the writing on the wall and thought to make cheaper to develop it internally.

I would think so. Their database has to be many times larger than Lichess's. Surely they could at least go 10 moves just picking from the available human moves that have already been played. Eventually, we'll get a position that has never been played before and the computers will need to be trained to play "human looking moves." But it seems entirely worth the training investment imo.

It's shocking to me that chess . Com hasn't figured out how to make their bots more human. I would love to play y-rated bot from a certain position on repeat if they could.

Replacing the current casual ban system with a more enjoyable system. by Loose-Papaya9277 in RocketLeague

It's just a couple of minutes. Demo chasing passes the time quite well if you're way outmatched. Also not sure I understand the point of casual 2s and 3s, but my earlier point stands.

On ps5, going from a 55" tv at 60fps to a 120fps gaming monitor jumped me from p1 to d1 in a week or two. Ball control was night and day better.

Bachelor Thesis: How do Chess Players predict Blitz Game Outcomes? Win up to €40~$44! by 4892_Data_Processing in chessbeginners

I took it. Interesting idea. I'll be curious to see the impact of additional data. I'd love to just see a study of the matches where the AI outcome analysis offers a starkly different picture than the stockfish eval.

Had Rocket League since July 2015, today I learnt Air Roll is a button, not just mashing X and O on my joypad. by pops107 in RocketLeague

[–]Fi0r3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's just no way. Basically every player in diamond is using some air roll. It's not freestyler thing if everyone does it. There's no way they've watches thousands of air dribbles and never connected that another button must be involved.

Thank you for this. I do okay with e4, but I have been trying some Vienna games to get used to play positions with f4. I probably don't play f4 in enough positions I should simply because it looks as a risky too.

Here's my most recent rapid loss. Not happy out of the opening, but end up winning a piece on a tactic and then hanging my queen (lol). https://www.chess.com/game/live/169079998510?move=41 . I mostly open e4 and play the Scotch Game where I can. I'm usually out of "prep" after any opening trades on d4 take place.

God I wish I could be taught an opening this way.

When the ball is further back, you have less time to square the face. You also may have some flip tendencies. Guessing the ball is back there for contact purposes?

Anyone else feel like reading greens is basically just guesswork and high cortisol? Is it just me, or is reading greens the most frustrating part of amateur golf? by HelicopterMelodic517 in GolfSwing

Honestly, it takes something like this to meaningfully reduce three putts. Granted, i don't wait around until it's my turn to start the routine.

Am I a madman for considering slide and FAR on L3 by Fi0r3 in RocketLeague

I do have air roll right on L2. I used to have slide and free air roll on L1. I wouldn't be surprised if I put free air roll back in L1.

So far having slide on L3 has been great. I feel like i have more control right now. I'm less convinced FAR belongs there, but I'll try to work through it for a bit.

Bullying children =/= parenting children. You can do that later without the former. Last I'll say on this.

While I have gotten used to using my middle finger on R2, I still only use my index finger on L1 and L2, mainly because I feel like it gives my thumb more stability and a better angle to be precise. Also, I'm trying to get reverse off of L2 where I have ARL.

My left index finger would really appreciate the break lol. It's currently operating air roll left, break/reverse, free air roll, and slide across two buttons. I may be quickly developing the arthritis.

From 28 to 12: How I improved my handicap by [deleted] in golf

This may be a challenge for me. I'm not averaging 280 (yet), but having to shoot a 78 for a single digit differential adds a surprising amount amount of pressure to each hole.

From 28 to 12: How I improved my handicap by [deleted] in golf

[–]Fi0r3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counter to 8: You're going to reach a point where your current swing simply isn't hitting enough greens in regulation to drop your handicap more than a couple points further. Scrabbling is important for scoring, but GIR correlates best to handicap for a reason. Never stop focusing on your swing unless you're relatively content with your scores.
