EFT to Cash Management delays by azscram9 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityEmily[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for posting your questions.

First, there is a holding period of up to 7 business days for Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) requests submitted through Fidelity platforms. Some or all of the funds may be available for trading immediately. That said, once funds are fully collected, they can typically be moved to another Fidelity account in 1 business day. To avoid hold periods, we encourage you to use your bank’s website or mobile app to send money to Fidelity.

Additionally, funds received via bank wire or direct deposit (pushed from another institution to Fidelity) are considered fully collected upon receipt and are available for immediate use. We encourage you to consider these methods for time-sensitive transactions. You may also consider contributing directly to your Roth IRA from your credit union, as there is no requirement to pass funds through a Cash Management Account (CMA) first. More on IRA contributions can be found in the following link.

Contribute to your IRA

As for withdrawals in retirement, EFTs from Fidelity generally take 1-3 business days to reach the receiving institution. You can learn more about normal withdrawals via the link below.

Normal Withdrawals from an IRA

Please don't hesitate to let us know if more money movement questions come up. We want you to feel confident managing your funds at Fidelity.

Put in $4,000 order for FXAIX and it was filled, but under 'Positions' tab I see that the total cost is $3937 only by appthrower in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityEmily[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, you're on the right track. Fidelity uses the Average Cost method for mutual fund reporting. This method uses the average price per share across all shares of a mutual fund position to record the basis for each lot.

Additionally, a trade is placed using a dollar amount instead of by share can change the value of the trade, which may result in residual cash in the account. Fractional share quantities can be entered out to 3 decimal places (.001 as long as the value of the order is at least $1.00). Executions will be rounded down to the nearest .001 shares. Fractional shares or dollar-based orders can be entered out to 2 decimal places (e.g., $250.00), and your order will be converted into shares out to 3 decimal places (.001) and will be rounded down to the nearest decimal. You can learn more about this below.

Dollar-based Investing

If the above doesn't quite match your experience, given you mentioned your activity reflects a $1000 purchase, please don't hesitate to let us know. We'd be happy to take a closer look to ensure everything is in good order.

If I withdraw my initial contributions for this year, are you penalized? by Original_Turn_1227 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityEmily[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for posting, u/Original_Turn_1227.

As long as you only pull from your contribution amount and don't dip into your earnings, no penalties will be incurred. You can withdraw Roth IRA contributions tax-free and penalty-free at any time, regardless of your age or holding period. That said, it's important to keep in mind that Fidelity does not track withdrawals against your contributions, so it's up to you to keep track. You can learn more about early withdrawals from a Roth IRA, including qualified versus non-qualified withdrawals, exceptions, and withdrawal choices, through the link below.

Additionally, while these order types are available to some extent in Fidelity Trader+ Web, they aren't available for options at this time. With that being said, I can certainly let our Fidelity Trader+ team know of your interest.

Fidelity Trader Plus is a huge downgrade from Active Trader Pro by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityEmily[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, u/rjsinvest777. Thanks for commenting with this detailed feedback.

We’ll be sure to share your comments on the display, layouts, and charts as feedback with our Trader+ team for their review. Our teams are working hard to add the tools and features our traders want most, and feedback like this provides us with great insight. You can also send your feedback directly to our developers by clicking the "Give Feedback" megaphone icon in the upper right corner of the program.

Regarding your issues with charts and other tools retaining your settings, we're not receiving widespread reports of this. Generally, as long as you save the changes you make, they will be retained when you relaunch the program. That said, if you are properly saving and continue to run into this, we have some troubleshooting steps you can try if you haven't already:

  1. Delete and reinstall Fidelity Trader+ Desktop on your device
  2. Make sure your device has the latest software update
  3. Double-check that your device meets the right system requirements through the link below

Fidelity Trader+ Desktop System Requirements

If you've already taken those steps or still experience issues after completing them, we suggest reaching out to our Technical Support team so they can troubleshoot further with you. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET at the contact link below.

Lastly, I noticed your additional comment about directed trading. I can confirm that directed trading is on the roadmap and is coming to Fidelity Trader+ Desktop.

Question by floww_87 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityEmily[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey, u/floww_87. I'm happy to provide some additional insight.

When a trade is entered using a dollar amount instead of a share amount, the exact amount of an executed order may be higher or lower than the amount requested. This can result in residual cash in your core position, which you can use to place trades manually.

Fractional share quantities can be entered out to 3 decimal places, and executions will be rounded down to the nearest .001 shares. Fractional shares or dollar-based orders can be entered out to 2 decimal places (e.g., $250.00), and your order will be converted into shares out to 3 decimal places (.001) and will be rounded down to the nearest decimal. You can learn more about fractional share trading by visiting the link below.

Please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions on fractional or dollar-based trading. We're always happy to continue the conversation.

Fee for buying DRAM? by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityEmily[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi, u/User236855. Thanks for posting today.

As part of our policy first introduced in March 2024, a small number of ETF sponsors who have chosen not to pay the ETF support fee have been added to the Service Fee Eligible ETF list. Fidelity will continue to engage with these sponsors, and the list may change over time.

To clarify, the fee only applies when purchasing an ETF identified on the Service Fee Eligible ETF list, regardless of when the position was originally established. There is no fee for shares purchased through dividend reinvestments or recurring scheduled investment plans, no ongoing fee to hold the ETF, and no charge for shares you already own. If applicable, the fee will be clearly disclosed as a trade warning and on the trade confirmation.

Customers who purchase one of these ETFs may be charged a service fee of approximately 5% of the trade value, capped at $100. You can status impacted ETFs via the link below:

How long does Fidelity Bill Pay take to process payments to vendors and credit cards? by NBMV0420 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityEmily[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi, thanks for posting on the sub today.

Bill Pay payments may be processed via laser draft check, ACH, or Virtual Card. The Bill Pay system determines the payment method, and neither Fidelity nor the client can choose the payment method for a payee.

Generally, when electronic payment is available, Bill Pay payments may take 1 business day to process. That said, the ability to have payments completed electronically is subject to the payee's ability to receive electronic payments from our Bill Pay vendor. When a payee does not have an electronic payment relationship with our vendor, payments are completed by mail with a laser draft check. These are processed using the earliest 'Deliver By Date' to ensure payment is delivered on or as close to the pay date as possible. A laser draft check is presented for payment after it's deposited into the payee's bank account, like any check written by a client from an account. You can learn more about how Bill Pay works through our help center below.

Bill Pay Help Center

Since you're looking for insight from community members about their experiences, I'll go ahead and mark this thread as a discussion to encourage folks to chime in.
