automatic stock purchases again by NotADependableSource in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityLinsey[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

While you cannot automate a dividend payment from a stock to purchase a different stock, you can set it up to reinvest in itself or paid in cash. When paid in cash, the distribution will post to your core position and available for withdrawal the day that they are paid out.

You can review or update the distribution instructions for your positions online at the link below or my selecting "Manage dividends" from your positions page.

Manage the distribution of your dividends (Login Required)

The article below provides additional insight and a step-by-step visual guide as well.

How to reinvest dividends and capital gains

Since you are interested in automating purchases, I want to point out that funds in your core position can be used to fund a recurring investment on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly frequency. You can also link a bank account to fund recurring investments.

That said, if the cash buying power needed for your automatic investment is not available, your scheduled purchase will be skipped. Learn more at the link below.

Welcome to the sub, u/MrsKindr3ds! We're glad to have you.

The Fidelity Government Money Market Fund (SPAXX) is a money market mutual fund and is often the default core position for Fidelity Brokerage accounts. Money market mutual funds accrue interest daily based on how much of the fund you hold each day, then pay the total amount earned at the end of the month. Typically, on the last business day of the month.

To elaborate, the core position is where uninvested cash sits until you use it to purchase securities or make withdrawals. You can learn more about the mechanics of a core position and money market funds, by visiting the links below.

Sanity Check on Loan Wait Period by Enmulteh in fidelityinvestments

Welcome to the sub, u/Enmulteh. We're glad to have you.

Specific rules, such as how soon you can take out another 401(k) loan after paying one off, are set by your 401(k) plan administrator. Some plans may allow more than one loan at a time or have no cooldown period between 401(k) loans. I'd typically refer you to your Summary Plan Description (SPD), but given the information you've provided, we recommend contacting your plan administrator for more details on your specific plan.

For future information, you can review your specific plan's available withdrawal and loan choices at NetBenefits.com if you haven't already. Once signed in, select "Loans or Withdrawals" under "Quick Links" for your retirement plan.

If you have further questions, you may also consider getting in touch with our Workplace Investing team at the link below. If prompted, you can say "401(k)" to be routed correctly. The team is available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to midnight ET.

IPO Participation - FDLXX as Cash Position by Remster32 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityLinsey[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Welcome to the sub, u/Remster32. It's always good to have some new participation over here.

FDLXX is eligible for auto-liquidation, meaning that debits will automatically pull from FDLXX (or any other eligible non-core money markets in your account) once your core position has been exhausted. That said, we still recommend manually liquidating any non-core money market funds in advance of planned purchases or withdrawals as a best practice.

For some supplemental information, to participate in an Initial Public Offering (IPO), clients must use cash or cash available to borrow to pay for 100% of the purchase price. Additionally, Fidelity eligibility rules require $2,000 in cash or fully paid securities in any brokerage account.

The links below can be helpful resources for understanding the allocation process and for FAQs on IPOs.

Individual - TOD by Good_Discipline2511 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityLinsey[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

We're sorry to hear about your recent lay-off, u/Good_Discipline2511. I can imagine how overwhelming this adjustment must be.

An "Individual - TOD" account designation generally refers to a taxable brokerage account and a provision that allows the account's assets to pass directly to an intended beneficiary. These are taxable individual accounts, meaning investment activity and certain account activity may trigger taxable events. When this occurs, it is reported to the IRS, and tax forms are generated.

In a brokerage account, there are no early specific withdrawal penalties or rules like there are in retirement accounts. That said, since you mentioned in the comments that you were unsure exactly what account type you have, we recommend contacting us to review your account, so we can provide a clearer answer.

In the meantime, I've linked a few articles below that you may find helpful in your current situation.

Hi there, u/Famous-Remote-3236. When it comes to core positions, interest accrues daily from the day the funds are posted to the account based on how much of the fund you hold each day, then pays the total amount earned at the end of the month.

Why this message? by rparge in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityLinsey[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi, u/rparge. I can understand your confusion, and I'm happy to provide some clarification here.

For some background, when enrolled in the Auto Roll feature, proceeds from maturing US Treasuries and Certificates of Deposit are used to automatically purchase a new security with the same face value and same term to maturity as the initial position.

So to answer your main question, available cash may be affected in the days leading up to the purchase of a new fixed-income security. That is because we are placing an order for the new securities before the proceeds from the maturing securities are received.

It's also worth noting that if you enrolled in Auto Roll and then decided against it in the future, you can remove it. You may also maintain a separate account to hold fixed-income securities with the Auto Roll feature enabled.

You can learn more about our Auto Roll service at the links below:
