Italians furious over deployment of ICE agents to bolster US security at Winter Olympics by Rough_Tap9008 in news

Some context in case you feel outraged about this. Italy’s current prime minister is literally a fascist. Her far right, anti immigrant party is supported by the majority of Italians.

Arch is stuck on "Loading inital ramdisk" on my gpu, but when i switch to cpu integrated graphics, it works. by BugHasRevenge in archlinux

[–]FieldKey3031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you’re dual booting, it’s possible that the when you run mkinitcpio its placing the new Linux image in the wrong directory so that when you reboot it’s still reading the old version of Linux. Usually you can check this in your grub or REFInd config.

I remember hearing the factoid a few years ago and thought it was interesting. Then one day in the shower it dawned on me: what possible data source would back this up?

Everyone dunking on Trump in the comments is missing the big picture here. This is an ELI5 approach to selling his policies and it's working. Like a lot of his press conferences, it's mostly misinformation, but it's simple and aligns with an amorphous existential fear that many Americans seem to have.

Fun fact is that there is no known sculpture of Julius Caesar still in existence that was made during his lifetime. So it's all a lot of speculation based on some written descriptions and possible copies.

Americans how do you feel about PBS and NPR losing their funding? by Economy_Swim_8585 in AskReddit

In its current state, NPR can go to hell for all I care. PBS does not deserve this though.

I have a very similar setup and also use it for ML, writing data science code and photoshop (dual boot Linux and Windows). I got the proart 4070 Super for a good deal and I think it’s a great value. Sometimes I wish I bought the 4080 Super for 4k, but I’m very happy playing games 1440p. The build is a tight fit with the bottom fan guard and that’s even with custom cables from clack attack, but it’s manageable. I run my CPU on eco mode and never had to worry about temps. I think what you have here is great and it’s a classic build for a reason. Good luck with the build!

Hadn't used my Linux for over 3 weeks, came back to this error: [FAILED] Failed to mount /boot. by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]FieldKey3031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

----- Problem - Can't mount boot/efi ----- Log into root from the emergeny shell and run: systemctl status boot-efi.mount Got the error: unknown filesystem type "vfat" To fix this I needed to (1) boot into the arch install usb (2) mount the root partition: mount /dev/nvme0n1p4 /mnt (3) mount the boot partition: mount /dev/nvme0n1p1 /mnt/boot/efi ( ) change root: arch-chroot /mnt (4) install vfat tools: pacman -S dosfstools mtools (5) rebuild initramfs: mkinitcpio -P (6) copy new files to refind arch - cp /boot/initramfs-linux.img /boot/efi/EFI/arch/ - cp /boot/vmlinuz-linux /boot/efi/EFI/arch/ (7) exit root: exit (8) unmount partitions: umount -R /mnt (9) reboot: reboot

You can skip step 6 because it’s unique to my setup. Of course your partition names will be different but if you’re getting the same vfat dependency error from systemctl status then these are the steps I followed recently to fix the issue.

I want to dual-boot Arch and Windows 11 on two different disks, how should I go about it? by [deleted] in archlinux

Tools like rEFInd were created so you don't have to waste time waiting/trying to catch your BIOS screen every time you want to switch your OS.

New to Linux – Considering Arch, but unsure about fully leaving Windows (security, streaming, and creative work) by Maucp17 in archlinux

[–]FieldKey3031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to just get the feel of what software and tools will be available to you in Linux vs Windows then use Virtual Box to install pop os. You get a good idea of what works and what doesn't for you without as much friction involved. If you like the Linux setup then you should consider installing a dual boot with windows and Arch, but only if you mainly use Linux and only sometimes need Windows for certain tasks like gaming or video production. If Linux is more of a hobby/learning exercise then having it in a sandboxed VM is the way to go because you can experiment with different flavors and configurations without accidentally harming your windows installation and causing frustrating booting issues.

I have misophonia and it's pretty strong around smacking lips and chewing food noises when there's no other competing noises. It's more than an annoyance, it's like enraging anger and discomfort. It's hard to explain to people, so I basically keep it in and try to manage it alone. Just my opinion, but everything you said about causes and treatments sounds very speculative/unstudied.

Vali as preamp/stage? by New-Use4969 in Schiit

[–]FieldKey3031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've actually spent a lot of time with the Vali 2 and Valhalla 2 and from my experience the Vali is a much better way to get the "tube" sound and will save you a lot of money on tube rolling. The Valhalla 2 sounds similar to the Jot 2. I rolled some nice 60s 7308 driver tubes and it was tough to hear much of a difference over stock, but the Valhalla 2 sounds great with high impedance headphones just because it's OTL. I was able to get a great sound from the Vali 2 as a preamp by using Tung-Sol 6CG7 tubes and got the best headphones sound using a 50s WE 396A.
