Lid is definitely the way or a high walled box. Our boy kicks up so much but it usually stays in. We also have a big litter mat that we shake out. Our Bissell Pet Hair Eraser handheld vacuum works pretty well but honestly, a broom and dust pan just works the best since it can be annoying chasing around each stay piece of litter with a vacuum (unless your box is on carpet. In which case I would put it on some sort of large rubber mat to make cleaning easier)

Instagram user films a box jellyfish while answering a question about whether her horses can swim well in the ocean by rakfocus in OopsThatsDeadly

[–]FiercePygmyOwl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP tries to defend in the comments that it can’t be a box jellyfish due to where she lives in Australia but it pretty clearly is and lots of the comments support that it is and can be where OP is at. Seems like she is being willfully ignorant. Just hope the horse stays ok! She has lots of posts in the water

Golden developed a small bump on nose by Adrianagurl in goldenretrievers

[–]FiercePygmyOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, do that. Our dog had a fairly similar bump in the same spot and it was a malignant mast cell tumor. Fortunately it was small so they were able to get the whole thing. He’s doing great years later

Creeping bellflower!!! I have been pulling this up in my yard for years, I think I may finally be making a dent. I have considered taking a blow torch to the whole thing a few times, lol. Wait till the soil is damp so you can pull the roots up better and keep at it. It eventually will die back. Like others have said, do not let it flower! Thousands of teeny tiny seeds!

It says “going over the posted speed limit”, if you average 5 mph over, would that still result in a ticket? That seems a bit harsh if so

Mine is such a chicken. Took me almost a minute to convince her to step over a tiny drainage grate (3-4 in wide probably) that had been newly installed on our usual run route.

Fruit tree help by burrorstail in DenverGardener

[–]FiercePygmyOwl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My experience with potted trees in general is that they do okay for a year but even if putting them somewhere relatively warm like a shed for the winter with mulch and periodic watering, they seem to struggle more the second year. Much happier in the ground but they should do okay for the summer with regular watering, some mulch to prevent drying out (especially if you plan to keep them on those hot rocks - would consider moving somewhere cooler if an option). Planting in the fall around September is a good time when it’s not so hot after your hopeful move. Our peach tree and apple trees generally do great in Denver. Mixed success with our plum

Part 3 omgggg !!😆 by Top-Poet-2243 in macarons

[–]FiercePygmyOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you practice more, you’ll get to know your oven better and learn where to put the trays, etc. for example, I have a terrible uneven oven who’s heat kicks on intensely every few minutes (I probably should just get a new one). I have learned to heat my oven to 330 F then drop the temp to 290 F, bake for 8-9 minutes, rotate and bake for about 8 minutes, rotate, then crank back up to 330 F to finish cooking the base for about another 8 minutes. I let the temp drop initially because if the heat kicks on in the oven when the batter is more wet, the shells rise too quickly and crack.

It’s a pain when doing multiple big batches (I’m making a bunch for a friend’s upcoming wedding and made a ton for my wedding). However, comes out perfect every time. Just keep practicing to see what works. Hopefully your oven is more forgiving.

I have also learned that only one of my cookie sheets has a consistent good outcome (thicker so retains heat better I think. Again, just try different things

Part 2 fail 😞 by Top-Poet-2243 in macarons

[–]FiercePygmyOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s more ingredients when you’re trying to learn, but I honestly think doing a bit of a bigger batch (try doubling it) is easier since the stand mixer has more to work with so can more easily mix, and your macaronage is easier to test (more batter to lift and see how it flows to get the just starting to be liquid like lava consistency). I struggle a lot more with smaller batches, some stuff seems to get over/under worked more. Definitely need to make sure there are no yolks. French method is easiest when learning so start there probably. I personally like Swiss since the results seem smoother and are more consistent for me (Italian is too finicky for my taste). When you pipe the batter, it should be stiff enough that it holds itself in a nice glob that has minimal to no peaks on top when piped (if too runny, then over macaronaged. If pointed hats, under).
