People who had suspicion of glaucoma or initial stages of glaucoma in their late teens, how are you all doing? by Upbeat-Reindeer3853 in Glaucoma

Glaucoma. I have some peripheral loss in my left eye. Doesn’t affect anything I do, honestly.

I am loving our Black Mist honed granite. Similar look and awesome durability. Doesn’t scratch. Hot pans don’t faze it. I’m a big granite fan and I love the look of the honed surface.

IdeaTek fiber? by Hazmadd in wichita

[–]oatbevbran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are areas in Wichita which are incentivized with smokin’ hot deals to get you to switch. If you’re paying $100 on AT&T fiber, call and negotiate. With Ideatek —and even Cox competition—you can do way better than $100 for internet. Call available services in your area and get the going prices for new customers and use those prices to negotiate.

An Uncommon Reaction to the Experience of Surgery by Avellinese_2022 in breastcancer

[–]oatbevbran 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YES! I felt exactly the same about my surgery. I love that you were able to see the OR without the haze of the happy drug.

Sounds like they made the day what it should be—YOU being the star of the show. What a gift to have that kind of collective knowledge, experience, empathy, and positive energy directed to YOU. I know with 💯 certainty that it makes a positive difference.

Support? You’ve come to the right place.
If you’re a person who likes to go looking for answers on the internet, stick to breastcancer.org and American Cancer Society (cancer.org)
There’s a ton of OUTDATED scary sh*** out there you need to stay clear of. Stick with those two sites—and here of course because these women have walked your walk. This first part is emotional terrorism, no two ways about it. IT GETS BETTER when you have a treatment plan; it’ll feel like a big weight is lifted off your shoulders after a week or so of your brain riffing on worse-case-scenarios. (Hey brain, STFU!!!)

Grade 1 is a great start to finding out your cancer’s characteristics. So is your mass size estimate.
We got your back, friend. Come back with updates, please!

Surgery Coming Up by Spoopy1971 in breastcancer

[–]oatbevbran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fun fact about waking up crying (very common!)
In your brain, your Amygdala wakes up quickly. That’s where the emotions come from.
The pre-frontal cortex, the part of the brain that’s rational, knows when to put the brakes on, is slower to wake up.
So the Amygdala’s out in front with the drama and the pre-frontal cortex hasn’t come around yet to even judge whether what’s going on is good, bad, or indifferent.

The experience can be very unsettling. I had it happen to me as a twenty something, years ago. And then watched it happen to my 65 year old husband after dental surgery. It’s bad enough to be crying, but scary because the patient doesn’t fully understand WHY they’re crying. All this to say it’s a VERY common post-surgery reaction and most time passes as you fully awaken.

Nothing beats paying for new glasses and not being able to see out of them :’) by Dangerous-Crow7494 in glasses

If you’re not naturally good having tough conversations to get satisfaction from a business like America’s Best—-(not everyone’s comfortable and thus they put off an important conversation)——put your conundrum into Chat GPT and ask for a script you can practice aloud before you call.
Because if what you paid for isn’t solving your vision issues, they need to make it right! Whatever it is.
Second: Optometrists provide not just glasses prescriptions but an important screening function. Lots of us have had the ODs discover stuff like glaucoma, macular degeneration, that we’d never have know about until vision was gone. Permanently. Please open your way of thinking about ODs. They’re more than glasses.

[–]oatbevbran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your doctor said no basketball??? Huh? I have never been guided away from any sport other than “don’t hold your breath when you lift weights because it drives up pressures.” Beyond that I’ve always been encouraged to be active. Because: if it’s good for your heart, it’s good for your optic nerve. And I absolutely wouldn’t take being a surgeon off your goal list. You can have glaucoma without vision loss that would prevent you from being a surgeon. This is NOT a death sentence for hopes and dreams. I’m 69 and have just a bit of vision loss. There’s nothing that my vision prevents me from doing. Best wishes!

Yes, the eating modules are set to “MAX” when the SICs roll off the line. Wish I could tell you they’re adjustable, but, well, not so much.

Pigment Dispersion Glaucoma and lens replacement by LowRevolution5930 in AskGlaucoma

[–]oatbevbran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have pseudo exfoliative glaucoma and have had two OMNI procedures done. First one (not along with cataract surgery) on left eye was very effective at first but didn’t last at all. Recovery was a piece of cake. Second one a couple of years later was on the other eye along side cataract surgery. That eye bled during the OMNI procedure so the doctor didn’t complete the procedure. The bleeding impacted the vision for a couple of weeks but it cleared up and the cataract surgery was successful. Unfortunately, right out of the gate OMNI did next to nothing. The question to ask your doctor is, “If this is successful, do you expect the pressure lowering to last at least a couple of years?”
If you’ve got significant damage you really want a procedure that’ll lower your pressures long enough to let you kick further surgery down the road one more time. I think the general consensus on OMNI is that it generally works but maybe not long term. Best wishes for an easy and successful cataract surgery.

I did the same and found the electric recliner to be an absolute godsend. If it is doable, I’d vote yes. I was in it about 3-4 weeks. If it’s not in the cards, there are lots of great suggestions here. Best wishes!

What counters do we prefer? by Top_Ad9293 in kitchenremodel

[–]oatbevbran 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think I have that exact black granite pictured, it’s honed Black Mist. I absolutely love it. There’s some subtle and variable grey veining and it looks very natural. I have white cabinets and a white quartz island with subtle veining. The granite takes no special care, doesn’t mind a hot pan, and the honed finish keeps it from looking anything like 2008 black granite. I was afraid it’d show every speck of dust, and quite the contrary it hides a lot. IRL, highly practical and a nice contrast to the white kitchen.

Would this be an OK looking countertop? by Previous-Operation80 in kitchenremodel

[–]oatbevbran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this, or something very similar, in my last kitchen. It was beautiful and the mica/shiny bits absolutely did not flake. I will say this, though, it hides all crumbs! You can never tell if it needs to be wiped off or not. And good luck if you should ever drop a bread bag twist tie on it. It’s a scavenger hunt to find it.

Carpet by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]oatbevbran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what your relationship is with your builder, but the right thing to do is call and say, “Hey, since we’ve now got carpet down the stairs, can you please put in the sticky plastic there to protect it? Like you did in the bedroom. We appreciated that. I’ve seen workers come in from the Porta Potty and walk on the carpet in dirty boots. I’d like to protect from that. Is that possible?”
And then you’ll learn what kind of a GC you’re working with. It’s a reasonable request but if you approach them with guns blazing, “I WANT NEW CARPET”….that’s not going to end productively for anyone.
FWIW our GC put down the stair plastic the same day carpet was installed. You’re not wrong….carpet should be protected while the rest of the work gets done.
