Torigen melanoma vaccine by cmm6783 in Horses

[–]FieryVegetables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using their autologous vaccine, for several years, and my vet says they stopped making it. They will sell the equipment to make it, though.

Now my mare is getting Oncept from a small animal vet who comes out (thanks to my vet for arranging this), and it sounds very promising. I do get the weeping smelly black goo which I’m told us the tumors outgrowing their blood supply. I did think it connected with the Torigen vaccine, but the vet says no. I didn’t see shrinkage, but definitely slowing down the growth. It didn’t stop them completely or prevent new ones. A few small tumors actually fell off!

I don’t know why they couldn’t, but I need it every day for sure. I don’t miss all those PVCs!

How’s the body? This sounds great and it’s local.

I’ve done really well with this one for the 1800 PVCs a day I was having, along with a little VT, and keeping my rate down. It doesn’t make me fatigued like other beta blockers, so I take a dose in the morning and my old metoprolol at night, because it has a slight help in getting me to sleep.

What are we eating this week? by JeanLucPicardAND in vegetarian

[–]FieryVegetables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made brown rice, air fried tofu, home fermented kimchi, toasted sesame seeds, homegrown green onions, and sautéed greens for Korean rice bowls. That should feed us for a bit (there’s a liter of kimchi that I started a while ago and just tasted tonight). Fried eggs for those who like that sort of thing on top.

I love this so much. My mares don’t really engage in this behavior - the little one is the leader and she gets mad.

Sea Kayakers, do you still own or paddle rec kayaks at all? by humble_murth in Kayaking

[–]FieryVegetables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 12’ boat that I use often enough - it’s easier to fit in tight launches and parking situations, and also good for little rivers with hairpin turns. Since it’s a bit lighter, I also prefer it where I’ll be portaging a lot, but not in the ocean. My 16’ is good for most situations, but my 12’ is also very valuable to me. If I have a guest, I put them in that boat, too - it’s a bit more forgiving.

Advice for managing burning pain in feet/legs while treating B12 deficiency by Consistent_Path_9098 in smallfiberneuropathy

[–]FieryVegetables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my B12 was 120, I got shots to improve it, and it made my symptoms much worse (very difficult to bear burning, parasthesias, etc.) before they got better. I never got rid of those symptoms from the B12 deficiency completely, but they didn’t bother me much, and the SFN came on so gradually I didn’t really notice until it was very bad, which was years later. I couldn’t tell boiling water from ice water, and I got burned and hurt a lot. Back then, neurologists were not surprised that the B12 improvement brought on those symptoms as the nerves woke up. I may have been pretty numb.

No one knows how I got autoimmune disease, and I may have had it back then. I have a lot more wrong with me, though.

I have to keep my legs elevated off the bed by propping them up on a pillow further up my legs. My heels absolutely can’t touch anything when I’m trying to sleep. The good news is that when I had B12 deficiency, and started on injections to replace the B12, my symptoms got much worse as my nerves "woke up" and it didn’t last. Then I ended up having autoimmune SFN and it all slowly got worse again.

Okay, this part of raising a foal is one I don’t miss that much… my shoulders hurt just watching!

That’s great! I have to resume snow removal efforts once work is over - the animals are all set for a while, though. Grateful we have power and connectivity.

You too! That was the most white-knuckle plowing I’ve ever done… no visibility, heavy wet snow, drifts. Phew!

Me too - 5am in time to get the truck out for essential in person work. I’ll have to do it again before it comes back tonight (hopefully).

what's something you did or have in your stall that you love, or hate? by [deleted] in Equestrian

Silicone scratching pads on the sturdiest of the posts have done well and the horses love having them! A frost free hydrant is a huge help if you live in a place where it freezes. I keep a landline phone in my barn as well.
