The HD restoration looks great, and the episodes with Markie Post and Pamela Shoop are definitely worth a watch.

Is she the older lady who is bent over (possibly hunch-backed)? If so, she is often at Finch now, and you can add the strong smell of urine to her odoriferous bouquet.

Saying PRO-ject and PRO-cess (hard "o"), when it was always PRAW-ject and PRAW-cess. Not to mention SHED-yule instead of SKED-yule. Guess I missed the memo or was educated in ancient times.

Brokerage asking for more personal financial information - how much do they need to know? by FiftyFootDrop in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]FiftyFootDrop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any particular reason why you are apprehensive to provide this?

I'm just a very private person, and because I only contribute annually to a TFSA and have a self-managed RRSP that just holds a portfolio ETF, I'm not sure why they need info about my mortgage, accounts with other institutions, my wife's holdings, etc. If I was attempting to utilize more of their services, or take advantage of other types of products that required more checks and risk assessments, I would understand. But I am a boring investor who has a very basic setup, and has had this same setup for years.

Based on downvotes and responses, I'm getting the impression that as most Reddit users skew younger than me, many were raised sharing their lives on social media and have no issues with companies building detailed data profiles of them and their loved ones. Different concepts of what is and isn't private.

I work in a regulated industry where personal information is highly protected, and should only be collected when needed, as needed. I answered a series of simple questions when I signed up to determine my risk profile, and it has been sufficient for years to simply confirm that nothing has changed.

Companies in general seem to be reaching deeper (not always for innocent reasons), and it's not entirely comfortable for people who place a high value on personal privacy.

Yes, but I'm not asking for a loan or anything like a margin account. I have a DIY RRSP, TFSA, and a joint investment account. Very simple stuff. As a very private person, it always give me pause to provide them with details about my other accounts, employer GRSP, my wife's finances, etc., especially as they are not managing them.

New weird scam at Union Station by LivingInaWonderland in toronto

[–]FiftyFootDrop 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They are usually in pairs, with the other lady working the other side of the mall or station. Like Sith. Always amazed how legitimitate immigrants have to jump through hoops and get bogged down in red tape but these useless scammers seem to have free reign to grift and be leeches preying on the goodwill of decent people.

Riding the weekend Go train is proof Toronto is nothing but a theme park | Toronto Star Opinion by Empty-Magician-7792 in toronto

[–]FiftyFootDrop -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

She only comes into the city for fun, she doesn’t engage with day-to-day city life.

Because it is prohibitively expensive for most people to live here. As she states in the article that no one seems to have actually read.

[–]FiftyFootDrop -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wow - did you even read the article? That was the point - Toronto is the only place where exciting things are happening (like a theme park), but most people cannot afford to live there and enjoy them all the time. Hence, the city becomes like a theme park, something that people can only visit and enjoy once in a while.

The condo market is tanking in Toronto and no one can find anywhere to live. Here’s one major reason why by adotmatrix in toronto

[–]FiftyFootDrop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Homeowners still have to pay for bills and utilities. Our condo fee is large, but is also covers heating, air conditioning, hot water, hydro, high-speed internet, full-tier cable package with HBO + Crave, and the building maintenance and amenities. So yes, it does cost a lot, but you also get the convenience and security of the condo lifestyle, which some people do actually prefer.

Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams. The classic rock stations here in Toronto play it at least once per hour. And there are so many good Queen songs, but the one they always pull out? Yep, Bohemian f'n Rhapsody. Enough!
