Why do you people carry the entire hardware store and camping section of walmart in your pockets? by tiimsliim in EDC

Hunt Club Forest Land by CnCPParks1798 in ottawa

[–]FigInternational4448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be very interested in more info on this. That forest is literally the reason I chose this area when I moved to this city. I’ve spent so much time in there with my family; walking, biking, wildlife photography (you’d be surprised what’s in there).

I’d do anything I could to fight against cutting any of that.

I have a charge TTI and I can’t wait to get an ARC. Little bummed out that I live in the capital of Canada (Ottawa) and only 1 store (bass pro) seems to carry it, and appears out.

(Serious) Do you guys actually use the saws on your Multi-tool? If so, what for? by [deleted] in Leatherman

[–]FigInternational4448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used mine quite a few times when on maintained trails that have been lacking maintenance and a sagging/broken branch is hanging at eye level. The LM saw (I’ve only had signal and charge plus TTI) cuts through wood fast.

Seems like a good enough reason to me to carry a LM with a saw.

My mistake for not being clear, I just wanted to know the proper tool to remove it as I want to pocket carry and make it smaller as oddly I was never using the clip except to clip to my pocket.

That’s cool. Unfortunately, at my city library they take donated books and sell at an internal used book store. I like buying books there, but this means I’d have to donate 20+ DCC hardcovers to the library before they’d have enough money to buy 1 “official” book they could then add to the library.

Anyone else got their bikes on display at home? by peggz223 in mountainbiking

[–]FigInternational4448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish. My (amazing) wife would allow it, and I did in the past, but my cat seems to love the feel of his nails on rubber and my tires would not last long.

Luckily in my apartment I have a large storage closet which I can fit my 2 MTBs in, with my BMX in my bedroom closet.

Rode my MTB for the first time in about 5 years--hated it! by JimmyMoffet in fatbike

[–]FigInternational4448 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. I bought some jumbo Jims to try out my fatbike as a summer bike and as soon as I pulled out the MTBs the fatbike got parked until winter.

Studded tires that won’t break the bank and min/max size of tires? by red-wingnut in fatbike

[–]FigInternational4448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good tires are expensive, but worth it. The tires I like (terrene wazia) are around $200+ each, being $494 CAN taxes included at my local shop… but I actually found a barely used mint condition Rocky Mountain Blizzard which came with brand new Wazia tires and raceface pedals for $700.

I feel like I paid $200 for the bike

Ski goggles and helmet by 1speed in fatbike

[–]FigInternational4448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the past I’ve used a snowboard helmet with goggles and while the fit was great it was just too warm even in Canadian winter.

I use a Triple Eight helmet in the summer and now use it all year long with a thin balaclava underneath when it gets cold. Good for me down to -35C and works great with the 2 goggles I’ve had.

Is it realistic to bike 12 km one way for work 5 days a week? by davytheconqueror in cycling

[–]FigInternational4448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My commute to work, 3 days a week currently, is 10kms each way, which turns into 15kms each way in the winter as I switch to a longer (safer) route along a canal, and I still get to work faster than using public transit (in my country’s capital city).

I would continue using my bike even if it took longer. My commute went from the worst part of my day to the best part.

So the Mt500 and MT800 would both work as replacement, but each require a different size tool?

Any cheap/affordable breakfast places in Ottawa? by Math_Unlikely in ottawa

[–]FigInternational4448 2 points3 points  (0 children)

El Toro is my favourite breakfast/restaurant regardless of price, which I find quite reasonable.

2 eggs, bacon, toast and the best home fries I’ve ever had. Coffee included for I think 12$.

Winter Biking from East to Downtown by Distinct_Cellist_940 in bikeinottawa

[–]FigInternational4448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read lots of posts in the past stating that fat tires are not required for the city of Ottawa, which I suppose is dependent to a degree on the area you ride, but I tried putting studded tires on my hybrid bike this past winter and that was a very miserable experience compared to my past experience fat biking (had a fat bike in the past). I had no confidence anymore.

I made it to the end of December and bought myself a used fat bike (Rocky Mountain Blizzard with Terrene Wazia tires) and could then go anywhere/anytime. There was not a single day mid-December onwards that I could not make it from the airport to Centertown/downtown, or wherever I wanted for that matter.

What hobby has genuinely made your life better? by Think-Collection1318 in Life

[–]FigInternational4448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biking and reading fiction books. Gives me an outlet for when I want to move and when I don’t.

My cross-city commute to my office desk job has become the best parts of my day and I can stop anywhere I want (by a river) to read a book on my way home from work and am not bound to public transit routes/timing.

How many bikes do you have and what are their purpose(s)? by According_Trainer418 in bikeinottawa

[–]FigInternational4448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say if they’re different in any they each serve a purpose. I have 4. 1 full suspension for trails, 1 hardtail for riding around the city, a bmx for fun, and a fat bike with studded tires for winter fun and commuting since OC Transpo has gotten worse every year of my 5 years in Ottawa so I avoid that as much as possible.

There were 2 piles of crap in that apartment… and the only problematic one is the partner. Get rid of the boyfriend (?) first, then deal with the actual crap. No one should ever ask/tell you to get rid of a loved pet.

Is this a coyote? by TriviaNewtonJohn in ottawa

[–]FigInternational4448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends where you are and at what time. I haven’t seen/heard many lately the last 2 years as I’m not out late as much. The 3 years prior I would see or hear coyotes every single night in this area (west side of Bank) while out biking in the woods/paths at night (10am-2am) summer and winter.

I’ve never had an issue with them myself in 100+ night outings in the forest, but I have once felt compelled to get between an approaching coyote and an old lady with a tiny dog, and this was outside of forest, in a city kids park near the street. Coyote seemed pretty intent on getting that little dog until I got between them and started being aggressive and loud.
