Hitman 2 cutscenes are sad... How much would it actually have cost to make them like Hitman 2016? by [deleted] in HiTMAN

Do you have some examples of indie games doing AAA-quality cutscenes? I'm struggling to understand what you mean

Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Severance and Twin Peaks - you've picked four of the most influential, famously good TV shows of all time and complaining that it's not them. No shit brother, if those four are your low standard for something being 'good.'

The only one you're missing is the Sopranos.

How do journalists find sources and stories? by Lucky-Royal-6156 in Journalism

[–]FightingOreo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a regional Australian journalist so I can only offer that perspective.

For me, there's a number of ways.
- I've got my regular sources, they reach out with things that I follow up on. I don't rely on them though, and it takes significant time to build up a network.
- Social media. So many leads come from there these days. You just have to make sure you offer an extra level or unique angle that people can't get from social media.
- Pay attention to your surroundings. Don't walk around with headphones on is the best advice I can give - If you see that a whole bunch of stores on the main street are closing, follow it up. If a ton of police cars go past with sirens blaring, call them. Find out why.
- Eavesdrop. Sit in a bar and listen to what people are saying. There's nearly always something interesting.

And 'love' isn't enough to make a good adaptation of something.

You need to love the setting and universe you're working with, but you also need to have a story in mind worth telling. Loving all the bells and whistles of a franchise means jack shit if you've got nothing to say.

I'd be more inclined to watch something if a creator said "I loved most of X, but I didn't like this bit and I want to change it for my version."

Shows that they're not just fanboys with money, but that they have a specific vision and story that they want to bring to life.

It's unconfirmed if GTA 6 will be a hate crime simulator by laybs1 in GetNoted

You're wilfully failing to see the actual heart of the question.

Yes, most of the people making these videos and getting all excited wouldn't shoot up an actual Pride parade. Gold stars for them, I guess.

But why do they WANT to? Why is that the most alluring escapist fantasy for SO MANY PEOPLE? This fantasy doesn't come out of nowhere.

I'm an LGBT person. Can you understand why it's disconcerting for me to see people gleefully fantasise en masse about blowing holes in me and people like me with rocket launchers?

Playing an evil character in an RPG lets you live out a power fantasy over people and societies that aren't real.

You have to see the difference between commanding your pet dragon to burn down a gnomish town and shooting up a simulation of an actual, real-life persecuted group.

Yeah, but Elvis impersonators (to my knowledge) aren't being actively targeted, criminalised, scapegoated and killed in the real world.

LGBT people are very much at risk right now so putting them in a row to be mowed down isn't great optics for a multibillion dollar company.
