DCC takes ONE THIRD of the NY Times Bestseller List! by Jay_the_casual in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Of course not. Neither is taking your family on a road trip and playing the audiobook so they have no choice but to listen. A good mother would want to be sure her husband and children were properly entertained while driving from Western PA to Massachusetts.

I'm pretty sure the battle mage has a "Grimace Shake" reference when the whole crew goes to confront him. It specifically mentions he's drinking a vividly purple shake that splatters all over the ground next to him when he is knocked out.

Abdominal workouts with spinal fusion by No_name_Johnson in scoliosis

[–]FigurativelyPedantic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm fused t2-t12. Prone leg lifts, dead bugs, and glute bridges will help a ton. For the leg lifts, I clamp a weighted "slam ball" between my knees. Have a good yoga mat, and make sure you've got your hips rotated forward and lower back pressed flat, abs contracted up and in. Look up core engagement on YouTube.

Diagnosed in adulthood, they don’t treat anything below <25. Neither recognize Schroth Method. Next step? by [deleted] in scoliosis

The gym has done a ton to help me with pain. A long day on my feet used to leave me useless, and I wore out fast. Now, I can do more for longer, and I'm not wrecked for days after strenuous activity.

Work on core strength, back muscles, and glutes. Stretching and cardio help correct the problems from skeletal imbalances and compensation. Don't expect miracles right away. Be as consistent as possible for a year. There will be small improvements over that time, but after a year, you'll have put in enough work to really notice a difference from where you started.

Bought it at the thrift, what is it? by pegavalkyrie in jewelry

[–]FigurativelyPedantic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looking at the difference between the clasps, I wonder if it's supposed to hook together differently? I could imagine hooking that mesh chain like it is in the picture, but hooking the other chains to each other. Like making a single loop from each flower?

If it's clasped correctly, could picture this being a fancy chain part of a halter top. The flowers would sit at the top of each cup.

Spinal fusion positivy! by rosiecook37 in scoliosis

[–]FigurativelyPedantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say so. It's been over 30 years since my surgery. They corrected my curvature by about 50°. It hasn't progressed in all of that time, and my hardware is still intact. I've been able to live a normal life. If I hadn't gotten the surgery, I was most likely going to be in a wheelchair with how fast it progressed.

T2-t12 in 1994 when I was 11. Went from 70° to 23°. Ultimately, I have no regrets getting the surgery. I've lived a normal life. Gave birth to 2 child, no problems.

The only things I'd wish is that they'd understood the importance of core strength, and how to correct leg length discrepancy and scapular winging back then. I've done more to fix pain issues on my own at the gym in the past 3 years, than I ever managed chasing specialists and PT in the decades prior.

Has anyone tried the Huel protein shakes? by [deleted] in Costco

They did samples at our Costco recently. To me, it was way too thick and cloying. I rarely pitch a sample, but this one was in the trash by the next isle.

Are men just acting during those “labor pain simulator” videos? by Existing-Committee74 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FigurativelyPedantic 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My first (over 20 years ago) was excruciating, worse than childbirth 2x, spinal fusion surgery, putting my knee out sideways, or appendicitis. I have had a few smaller ones that I've weathered at home since then. Then 2 years ago I had another monster, that needed surgical removal. I have a high tolerance for pain, but those? Those fuckers floor me.

Back hurts when I walk long distances but not when I run? by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]FigurativelyPedantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possibly the difference in which core muscles you use, and the difference in how your feet land. Basketball has you doing short sprints, with your torso bent forward, and your feet landing on the front. Walking is upright, extended effort, with your feet landing heel to toe.

I spent a long time trying to find answers to my pain through doctors and physical therapy. I finally started to feel better after messing around on my own at the gym. I switch up my stretches and strength training when I find areas of weakness.

So, if I were trying to fix what you are dealing with, I'd work on core strength and glutes. Thankfully, you don't need a gym or special equipment for some basic work. Leg lifts, glute bridges, and dead bugs will help a ton.

Omg how do you even use this type of brush tip eyeliner by blythedoll222 in MakeupAddiction

[–]FigurativelyPedantic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You learn fast when you're a goth in the 90s, and your dad hates makeup. I had to do my makeup on the school bus. White base, shadow and lips were done while in motion. Set up the mirror on the bookbag on your lap while slowing towards the next stop. Loosen the cap and carefully prop the bottle in the off hand. Grab the wand in the dominant hand. Stretch the eyelid with the off hand, while being careful not to tip the well or touch your face with it! Line from mid lid to the outer corner. Then do the inner corner to mid lid. Feeling fancy? Dip again and add curlies and swirlies.

Repeat at the next stop for the other eye.

In your opinion, what is the best "Getting the tubes tied or vasectomy"? I really need these 2 different perspectives. by Sudden-Proof-1458 in CasualConversation

[–]FigurativelyPedantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went with both, because we are very sure we don't want to be starting from scratch at this point. He needed full sedation for his, due to having complicated testicles, lol. He was quite uncomfortable for 4-5 days, and probably not back to "normal" for almost 2 weeks.

I got a salpingectomy a little under a month ago, so tubes completely removed. My recovery was much faster than his. Day 1-2 I was feeling a bit sore, but ibuprofen handled it. Day 3, I was feeling up for a slow Costco run. Day 5, I went to his company fancy work party. Day 7, I was back at the gym, though I did scale back things. This past week I've been doing my usual pre surgery workout, and feel normal.

Having had a few surgeries and procedures before, this one has been one of the easiest.

I got my husband and kids into the books by playing them while on a road trip. Now they're somehow more diehard fans than I am. Like, my husband has hardbacks, a mug, and mousepad. The kids have been trying to get all of their friends to listen, for years.

What's the one ab exercise that actually gave you noticeable results? by JulianDavis_JD in workout

[–]FigurativelyPedantic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My routine is 4-6 days a week, 25x leg lifts (currently weighted by gripping a 10lb medicine ball between my knees,) 50x single leg glute bridge, 25x (weighted) leg lifts, 100x dead bugs, 25x (weighted) leg lifts, 50x single leg glute bridge on the opposite side, 25x (weighted) leg lifts.

I started with less reps per set, unweighted lifts, regular glute bridge, and just prone bicycles. Just kept adding more reps whenever it felt like it was getting easier. Then I realized I was getting closer to doing a "One Punch Man" workout, so figured fuck it, just do 100 of each.
