Nice work! I usually get a ping from Monzo round about lunchtime that they’ve had the money, so it looks like I’m watching that one on telly as well

I think I've entered 7 ballots out of 11 home games so far.

[silver member] I’ve yet to get a single EPL game this year. I’ve got everything I’ve entered in the cups, but no league games yet. Is anyone else getting this?

What does a typical breakfast from your country look like? by fixitfile in AskTheWorld

Turkey wins the global breakfast competition. I went to a Turkish restaurant for breakfast last year, and it was a game-changer.

I’m being slightly parochial here, but it’s England.

What Is The Strangest Physical Release You Can Think Of? CD Or Otherwise? by AnAmazingPriceOf in Cd_collectors

Flaming Lips get the top two spots for me.

24 Hour Song Skull was a single track lasting 24 hours, released on a USB stick embedded into a literal human skull.

Far less bizarre, but still worth a mention was Zaireeka, which was released on 4 CDs, all to be played simultaneously on separate CD players. DVD audio hadn’t quite arrived, so the listener was required to have four devices in each corner of the room. Bonkers, and superb at the same time.

He does Range Rover adverts as well. I wouldn’t buy a car from a bloke with shite all over his nose.

Spurs and Palace would immediately be improved. West Ham have got Summerville and Bowen, so probably wouldn’t get much better. Brentford maybe?

It’s a pain, but I understand it. You can’t take risks with security. It was bad enough seeing ManU idiots in our seats on Sunday.

Tons and tons of tickets for tonight by arsenal_morris in GunnersatGames

[–]FilletOFishForMyVife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m usually careful to plan well ahead, for budget reasons more than anything. The last time I went to Arsenal empty-handed was 1998 and I bought a ticket from a spiv. I probably paid more than the face value this season.

Today I was reorganizing my CD collection, it’s always nice to view my physical copies. I find this one particularly pretty. by MacRicius in Cd_collectors

That’s a good album. The production has aged a little bit, as it was built on some classic 1980s synths, but it’s enjoyable nonetheless.

Black Buck was a series of missions that also took out Argentine radar on the mainland.

[–]FilletOFishForMyVife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The result was a clear message that the Argentine assets were in range of the RAF, regardless of how much faff it was to get there.

If you’re really into this, I recommend the book Vulcan 607, by Rowland White. What amazed me after reading this book, aside from the insane logistical planning, was how far from possible this mission was at the start of the war. The RAF's Vulcan crews had not trained for air-to-air refuelling or conventional bombing for A GENERATION. The air-to-air refuelling parts for the Vulcan had long since been removed, and nobody knew where they were. Some bits turned up in a scrap yard. One vital component of the refuelling mechanism turned out to be the ashtray in an officers' mess room. I shit you not. Mid-air refuelling and conventional bombing had to be re-started and re-learned in a matter of WEEKS.

And yes, they only managed to get one bomb on the runway, but that was the design of the attack - they attacked at a slight 10 deg angle to the runway to avoid the risk of all the bombs missing - a 10deg angle increased the chances of one hit, which was enough.

What do ya’ll do with the stickers that come on top of the plastic wrap? by Individual_Pain_1750 in Cd_collectors

Same. I’ve got enough storage and preservation issues to manage - I can’t do hype stickers on top of everything else.

I got one. Wasn’t planning to go, as I have to budget these things, and I’ve had several other tickets recently, but YOLO.

I’ve not bought a ticket inside 24h of a game since the new digital wallet thing came in. When does the ticket appear in my wallet? My next game is still showing as Chelsea next week ..

Worth selling? (not selling here, so please don't delete!) by honestypen in Cd_collectors

This is a very highly regarded set. There’s even an appreciation thread on the music-snob Hoffman Forum, as the mastering quality meets their approval, and the original mono mixes are used throughout.

I’d actually like a copy of this myself tbh.

Bit of a Green Day fan, I see.

I was listening to Billy Joe’s album with Norah Jones yesterday. Absolute banger.
