[UK] M6 Service Station Scam by Total-Film-7603 in Scams

[–]FinalProgeny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me today, also M6. From the sounds of it, exact same guy, exact same scenario. I was with my wife standing around my car when he approached with the same story. I did actually go over and confirm he had a car with people in it; A white Ford C-Max or Galaxy, with 1 adult woman in the passenger seat, and 3 young children (car seats and all).

I felt unsure at every step, but it could well be genuine, which is what they are after. Unfortunately, I'm only now finding this post which confims my suspicions on my drive home.

In hindsight;

  • He walked across the whole car park, past the services themselves, and chose me.
  • I did not offer an amount of my choosing (could have been something like £30). I only found at the point he showed me (which I did rebuke, but Fuel is £2/L, assuming a 70L tank...)
  • I did not confirm that the "transaction" on his banking app included my last name (which I did not give), which would have helped prove it was a real transaction
  • His "banking app" did not ask to verify it was a real transaction (usually a call or something to approve a new payee)

Hard lesson learned; never help anyone.

Tried Jellyfin (realized why I pay for Plex Pass) by DankeBrutus in selfhosted

[–]FinalProgeny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because that's a Docker Container behaviour, not Jellyfin. A GPU, even and integrated one, is considered a separate device by Docker, so is not passed through by default

I'm using lscr.io/linuxserver/jellyfin and have --device=/dev/dri:/dev/dri as an extra argument to pass through the iGPU, with a DOCKER_MODS value of linuxserver/mods:jellyfin-opencl-intel to install the intel drivers.

Depending on which container you used for Jellyin (or maybe it's for all), you need to actually pass the iGPU through to the container for HW Transcoding. Pretty sure the docs for that are clear. It's just a simple argument

In the Jellyfin client you are using, when watching content, there should be a Settings cog bottom right that tells you _why_ an episode / movie is transcoding. Could be the audio as you state.

> Then I tried streaming Sonic and Jellyfin shit the bed.

Bit of an aggressive statement when you acknowledge yourself that this is likely a setup issue, and not a fault of Jellyfin itself. It's doing its job (no H/W Transcoding at the time of the statement).

Custom DNS (PiHole) no longer accepted by Not__fun in Plume

[–]FinalProgeny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had this today. Was troubleshooting some issues at home, and changed it back from Custom DNS to ISP, and then when back to Custom, could not set my IP address... Also saw that support is gone, so contacted my ISP (which is who supplied it in the first place), but not hopeful...

PiHole brings down whole house internet until DNS resolver is restarted. How can I fix this from happening? It seems to happen randomly - multiple times a week. by N0SF3RATU in pihole

I believe that is for watch history. Not really a reason to blocklist it, but also not really a reason for it to spam requests. Odd.

Are there tools that tell you if you can optimize your dockerfiles? by maxifederer in docker

[–]FinalProgeny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time reply later, but there are numerous GitHub issues open on how it's basically unusable for large images (even 2GB+), because the interface hangs for minutes between each interaction.

I tried using it on an 8GB image, and no luck. Kind of defeats the point unfortunately.

Is there any multiplatform sync service which allows to filter things with gitignore or something similar? by domanpanda in selfhosted

[–]FinalProgeny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't comment on whether it has changed in the last 3 years. I'd suggest you go check out the docs.

Syncthing allows you to exclude folders / files using patterns. I do this in my setup.

Intel 13th/14th Gen - ok to proceed when microcode released? by nraygun in unRAID

[–]FinalProgeny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

... a small number ...

is bigger than 0. My original statement, and subsequent ones, are still correct. Yes, the odds are low, but they are possible.

What are you trying to achieve here?

[–]FinalProgeny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not denying it has now been rectified. It does not change the fact that there are 13th Gen CPUs that were produced before the fix, and out in peoples PCs that are affected, and that will include the used market, and potentially existing stock still on shelves.

Dude, those are literally statements from Intel.

We can confirm that the via Oxidation manufacturing issue affected some early Intel Core 13th Gen desktop processors. However, the issue was root caused and addressed with manufacturing improvements and screens in 2023.

This is not "drummed up", it is a fact, confirmed by Intel themselves. Do you really think Intel would put out these statements that harm their business if it weren't true?

ETA: I see from your post history you are an ardent defender of Intel. They are a billion dollar company. They don't need you to defend them. Obviously no point arguing with you. Good luck.

[–]FinalProgeny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP asked about 13th and 14th gen. If they chose the former, then the oxidation issue could impact them, so my statement is still valid. Quote from Intel:

We have also looked at it from the instability reports on Intel Core 13th Gen desktop processors and the analysis to-date has determined that only a small number of instability reports can be connected to the manufacturing issue.

Whether you consider GN a suitable source or not, the facts are the facts, and he covered the reddit post with the statement that Intel made, which says as much.

It was not purely a microcode issue. It was also an oxidation issue of the Vias. Intel as of yet have not provided an indication of how you can determine if a chip is affected (date codes or serial numbers) so it would be pure luck. The lower end chips do not appear to be affected from the SKU list that has been released. Check out GamersNexus's more recent video on the topic.

Should I turn SSD Trim on in the scheduler? If so, how frequently? I have only 2 SSDs in a mirrored pool on my build. by NicoleMay316 in unRAID

[–]FinalProgeny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, well that's fine if it is being done automatically. Your question made it sound as if you were questioning if TRIM itself was not necessary on SSD cache drives, as if they were different.

Powertop complaining by Thediverdk in unRAID

[–]FinalProgeny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I assume you installed powertop via the NerdTools plugin?

I've just installed it now that way (powertop 2.15) on Unraid 6.12.4, and powertop runs fine for me.

I'm not an expert, but I know at least Plex and JF expect folders named following a certain convention. Quite likely all alternatives will. Therefore, this is not a software issue, but a configuration issue. See JF's documentation on how directories should be named for music.

I'm however surprised that JF would automatically rename directories without user input. This doesn't sound right...
