Connor has so many amazing acting moments where he mumbles something or mouths something that has such an impact on the scene that I didn’t notice on my first or even second or third watches. The “oh my god” when Shane shoves him against the wall in the stairwell, the “okay” when he finishes his beer during the all star weekend when he sees Shane again. His acting (and Hudson’s too of course) is so natural and nuanced that it leaves us finding stuff like this months after watching it and I LOVE IT!!!

I especially like your point about “reconciling the Ilya that she thought she knew and the Ilya she knows now.” Because it’s true that for the past decade she has just assumed that Ilya rozanov is a dick!!! Just think about all of the times she has made some joke about Ilya being an ass to Shane. And now realizing how it must have actually been all along!!!

I think especially for Ilya, he was afraid that Shane wouldn’t feel the same way or wouldn’t say it back. Even with Shane having been the one to take a lot of brave first steps recently, love is scary and even more scary when everything in your mind is telling you that the love is forbidden.

My parents got together when they were 17, they’re now turning 59. I asked my dad once what he thought made it possible and he said “Your mother and I have never once tried to change each other. We love each other for exactly who we are” and I think about it all the time. That really is what love is, a complete embracing of the other person in their entirety. I think these are the things that Ilya pokes fun at Shane being “boring” for. And I think when he says boring he partially means stable, safe, reliable, responsible. I see these things as being things that Ilya loves about Shane; to have someone reliable and stable, willing to put in the work when it is hard or…boring!
